The Linus Foundation was founded in 2011 by Veterinarian Dr. Brownstein and her son in Rochester New The Linus Foundation was established on August 25, 2011.

The foundation was created when veterinarian Dr. Brownstein decided to shelter a young kitten given the name "Linus" who was rescued off the streets of New York City initially, then transported from a kill shelter ready to put the kitten to sleep.
