10 years!
10 years ago, I was given a gift and started a journey that would change the rest of my life. 2016 was a big year of many challenges for me and a year to learn what it meant to be a business owner.
I had my double mastectomy on January 4, 2016, and started the process there after healing and learning all I could from my parents how to prepare for this next big step. I have been an insurance agent since 2001 so that part I knew and did well. š But to take over a successful agency and make sure that it could continue and grow is another story. I knew the āfront linesā and now it was time to really learn everything else. It was important that I always knew most of our agency ongoings anyway but there is so much more too it.
I had my reconstruction at the end of May 2016 but prior to that were my interviews with the corporate office. The way I felt with all my health issues was not an easy process. My sister Jenny was nine months pregnant and her and I were a site to see. The first interview I remember coming into the office and saying thatās it, I will never get the opportunity to take over, it was awful. But the second interview was another story, there I was with these expanders in my chest, Jenifer ready to give birth and we slay it. I looked at Jenny and said we are going to the bar, and you are driving.
So, June 1st comes, I just had my reconstruction the week before and I walked into our office like I do everyday and it was so exciting and so scary at the same time. Jenny two days later goes into labor. I can tell you the next few months were a roller coaster of craziness. Through all the training and learning I have done for the last 15 years I was prepared for this next chapter. Throughout these 10 years I have had quite a few people work for me and I couldnāt have done it without them. They helped us grow, stay on track, and gave me a chance to be all I could be in this new role. In 2018 I was blessed to have my sister Andrea join us and now the three of us work together and give all that we have to this office.
They are my right and left hand, and I am honored to have them by my side every day. We look out for each other, and I know when I need to continue to do what I do to make sure I succeed I can depend on the two of them always! It is not always easy working with family, but I guarantee it is a blessing.
So now it is June 1, 2026, and it has been 10 years. 10 years of learning, growing, facing many challenges, making things my own in my own way but keeping our history as it always has been. In time it will be passed on to my son Dylan, so to say we are keeping it in the family. I plan to teach him as I was taught what it means to make a successful business.
To say thank you to my Mom and John doesnāt even come close to what I feel in my heart. I plan to always make you both proud and I promise to continue to give this my all for myself, my family, my sisters, and my amazing insureds. Here is too many more years of being successful and enjoying all God has given to me.

Congratulations to Jack Barraclough, Van Hoosen math teacher, for winning a 2026 Excellence in Education Award to recognize his unwavering support for students.
Mr. Barraclough was nominated by a Van Hoosen parent who said, āHe views every academic challenge a student faces not as a barrier, but as an opportunity for personalized mentorship. He encourages students to explore unconventional solving methods, fostering a growth mindset that values creativity alongside mathematical rigor. He builds confidence.ā
Mr. Barraclough is also recognized for bringing the AMC 8 (American Mathematics Competitions) to Van Hoosen, helping to boost academic self-esteem and foster a vibrant math culture.

As a Meemic agent for over 25 years now I take pride in celebrating my current teachers as well as the ones to come. Oakland University School of Education and Human Services does a Future Teachers conference every year and I am blessed to be a sponsor of it.
Over 350 high school students, from 14 districts across Oakland, Macomb, Livingston, Genesee and Shiawassee counties, had a wonderful day learning about OU and all the ways we can support them in their goals to become the next generation of educators. They also heard an inspiring message from Stephanie, Jaskolski, the Region 9 Michigan Teacher of the Year!
I provided gift bags and much more. Cheers to OU for always making sure TEACHERS are on top!
