This August, we are excited to collaborate with 3 local organizations to offer a FREE opportunity for young people across SE Minnesota. 💪

These two “pre-apprenticeship” experiences will give youth and young adults (ages 16–24) the chance to explore careers in both 🧠 Mental Health and Youth Development ✨ through hands-on activities, career exploration, and connections with local professionals. Students earn certificates and are able to participate in person (in Rochester), via Zoom, or a combination of both.

Child care availability continues to be a significant workforce challenge across Southeast Minnesota.

In 2025, the Houston County Child Care Core Team awarded more than $38,000 to local child care providers for projects that helped create 86 child care slots and preserve 137 more. 💪

As fiscal host for this initiative, WDI was proud to help administer funding that supported provider training, facility improvements, and other investments designed to strengthen local child care capacity. 🙏

This work certainly demonstrates the impact that can be achieved when community partners come together to address workforce needs. Thank you to the providers, partners, and stakeholders working to expand and sustain child care access throughout our region!

How is Houston County combatting child care provider shortages? National Child Care Provider Appreciation Day is celebrated annually on the Friday before Mother’s Day, and many organizations extend the celebration throughout the month, naming May as Child Care Month.

Through our Bridges to Healthcare program, we've had the privilege of helping thousands of individuals take their first steps toward rewarding healthcare careers while supporting employers in meeting critical workforce needs.
