We’ve had some unique dogs come through here, but we couldn’t wait to tell you about our newest arrival, Kermit. He came to us from a rescue partner down south after being seized from his previous owners, otherwise previous history is unknown, but it turns out he’s an Dogo Argentino…we’ve never seen one here before! I would read up on the breed and familiarize yourself with it before you’re thinking about adopting.
He was a little shy when he first got here, but he has really come out of his shell as we've gotten to know each other. He’s cruised through his vet appointments, he’s already neutered, and he’s now moved down to the main area where our volunteers can take him out. We’ve been so impressed with him…he is an absolute beauty as you can see, walks good on a leash.. warms up quickly in first meetings, just a little hesitant at first.
He’s around three years old. If I didn't already have my own dogs at home, I would’ve taken this guy in myself in a heartbeat. Needless to say that happens around here a lot with volunteers and employees falling in love with one of our dogs, thoughts of taking them home runs through our mind🤔
He’s just one of a kind. He’s up on the website now, so keep an eye out, I have a feeling he’s not going to be here for very long. You can see more pictures below on his YouTube montage.

Meet Francine!

This young girl came to PCHS from a reservation when she was picked up as a stray. She is just a pup and is estimated to be around 10 months old. Francine is thought to be some sort of lab mix, but we do not know exactly what breeds she is.

Like many typical puppies - Francine loves life! She is sweet, energetic, and loves to give hugs! And as you can also see, she loves to smile 🤗. This girl is on the smaller side and currently weighs 37 pounds. She is not expected to get much bigger and will likely top out between 40-42 pounds. Francine is hoping her stay with us can be short so she can start being loved on by her own family!

Tootsie has been winning hearts over one by one, everybody she meets..who’s next?? She’s been so well behaved since her arrival, calm, cool, collected. Be careful if you advance on her, you may not escape her love trap!

Female, estimated 6-9 years old, black and tan, 14 lb. Dachshund.
History: Tootsie is a transfer from another rescue with an unknown background.

Good morning everybody, we wanted to give you a closer look at Cheyenne, who has been here since February…was pregnant and since had a litter of puppies that have all gone home. Well now she’s helping keep some of the other puppies busy by playing with them out on our decks. They just love her to death, just like her own babies did…she’s still very much a puppy herself, little over a year old. The two out there with her now are Vik and Dee, siblings who are in the midst of a prolonged stay. At the end of the video you will see inside the kennel Seabrook and Hossa, who also have been getting their turn and going out with the Cheyenne. So if you’re looking currently, please keep this group of dogs in mind as they are so deserving of a new home and we really get stressed as they’re stressed thinking about them not finding that home they need so bad. And the more we talk about it and the more the word gets out , it always seems that bingo …come in one morning and they’re gone. Didn’t even get a chance to say goodbye.😊

Meet Chica, she’s approximately 7 to 8 years old and as you can see a Mexican Hairless. She’s pretty stressed out as you can imagine, she just arrived from a rescue partner this past Wednesday, her previous owner having passed away😔 Have to say though, she’s already warming up to staff members and did very well at her vet visit, considering the circumstances. Below you’ll find Key Characteristics of the breed and a YouTube montage with more pics. Www.pawsandclaws.org

The Mexican hairless dog, or Xoloitzcuintli (pronounced "show-low-eats-queent-lee"), is an ancient breed from Mexico, known for being mostly hairless but also having a coated variety. These intelligent, loyal, and alert dogs come in three sizes (toy, miniature, standard) and are valued as calm companions and vigilant watchdogs, often forming strong bonds with their families.
Key Characteristics
Appearance: Most are hairless with smooth skin, but can have tufts of hair on the head, feet, and tail; a coated variety with short, flat fur also exists. They come in various colors like black, gray, brown, and red.
Temperament: Calm, intelligent, and loyal, they are naturally wary of strangers and can be good guard dogs because they don't bark excessively. They are sensitive and respond best to positive training.
Sizes: Toy (up to 14 inches), Miniature (14-18 inches), and Standard (18-23 inches).
History: One of the oldest domesticated breeds, revered by Aztecs as guardians for the afterlife.
Care and Needs
Skin Care: The hairless variety needs protection from the sun and cold, often requiring sweaters or coats in cooler weather.
Socialization: Early and consistent socialization is crucial to prevent them from becoming overly aggressive or fearful with strangers and other dogs.
Training: They are quick learners but need patient, fun, and consistent training.

Daphne is an 8-month-old Pittie terrier mix who came to us from one of our rescue partners. This young girl is absolutely beautiful and has so much potential ahead of her. We're not exactly sure what breeds make up Daphne's mix, but whatever she is, she is stunning. Sadly, her ears were cropped before she came to us, but that doesn't take away from her beauty or her sweet personality. Like many young dogs, Daphne is still learning her manners and would benefit from obedience training to help her grow into the best companion she can be. She is at a great age to learn and would love a family that will invest the time to help her build confidence and continue learning new things. Daphne is ready to leave her past behind and start a new chapter with a family who will love her for the wonderful dog she is. If you're looking for a beautiful young dog to grow and bond with, Daphne may be the perfect fit.

Charles is a 4-year-old blue terrier mix who came to PCHS from one of our rescue partners, and he is ready to find a family to call his own! This happy-go-lucky guy is always in a good mood and loves spending time with his people. Charles has a big personality to match his very big head, and he's about as squishy and lovable as they come. He enjoys attention, affection, and is always eager to make his people happy. Charles already knows some basic commands and is a smart boy who enjoys learning. He gets along well with other dogs and would be happy to have a canine friend in his new home. If you're looking for a sweet, goofy companion with a giant head, a squishy face, and an even bigger heart, Charles may be the perfect match for you. He can't wait to meet his forever family and start his next adventure!

We currently have a lot of puppies available on our website of different varieties and now we have 9 more to add. They are the Hannah Montana puppy litter and we’re born in February of this year. They are a mixed breed of some sort, mother and father’s identity is unknown , they came to us from a rescue organization down south. They were actually flown up here and have been here for at least three weeks already and have been thoroughly vetted and spayed and neutered. What a happy bunch, they are like little party dogs, just watch the montage. Never seen a group that just so filled with joy, little lovers jumping all over the place, having a ball trying to figure things out and just wanting some attention and love. Just giving everybody a heads up with the montage and will be posting pictures and putting them up on the website later tonight or tomorrow. Oh I forgot and their names are Hannah Montana of course, along with Rico, Jackson, Robbie Ray, Miley, Jake, Oliver, Ruthy and Lilly😍
