Grounded Nebraska

Wow, this is a hard one, and we have wrestled with this decision for months. In short, we have decided not to host a 2025 iteration of Grounded.

There are lots of little reasons, but ultimately, we need to find a way to create a Grounded experience that’s sustainable for *both* the organizers and community.

Susan’s departure brings a high level of restructuring and we have always held Grounded to a standard of intention and purpose. This can’t be pushed or rushed.

On a personal level, these gravel moms need a breather. Event planning takes buckets of time and energy.

As a founder, Cait has poured into Grounded for years, and Sally has been working and promoting events for even longer. We need to rest. We can’t nurture and support a community when we are running on fumes.

Most importantly, we respect each of you and the importance of this community too much to show up as anything less than our best. 🫶🏻

For right now, this is a pause. Our commitment to creating safe, community-centric, joyful spaces through movement and bikes is steadfast. It’s just going to look a little different.

We love Grounded.

We love each of you who has shown up to our start line, cheered us from afar, put Grounded on your “must-do” list, and so many others we could never get them all listed.

We will be back.
Just need to breathe.

Hey, Cait here. Goodbyes are never easy, and this one is the same.

Susan has given her bright and creative mind, tenacity, time, and heart to Grounded Nebraska for five years.

Grounded would not exist without Susan. I could not have done this without her.

We’ve traveled the country, made lifelong friends, problem-solved like we were on MacGyver, established a precedent of care and community, and shown the cycling world that, yes, in fact, you can make a space that is welcoming to everyone.

But Grounded has gotten big enough that it’s a year-round, time-intensive process, and sometimes, you need to take things off your plate to live a happy, thriving life.

So, Susan is saying goodbye to Grounded. Please share your favorite Susan memory in the comments below to send her off in style.

Never fear; Sally and I are sticking around. Our vision for Grounded has renewed vigor, but give us some time to make the necessary changes for the coming years.

🧭Use for navigation. The routes don’t transfer to Strava well and can be outright incorrect.

🧭Courses are *not* marked.

🧭Download the routes for “offline use” onto your smartphone (either as a backup or for your navigation).

🧭Aid stations are stocked with water, Skratch hydration and nutrition, snacks, and spectacular volunteers .
