“Married s*x is a mutual duty for a husband and a wife. Does the word ‘duty’ make you flinch? Or does the phrase ‘conjugal rights’ make you uncomfortable? Don’t let it.”

Tilly Dillehay makes plain the beauty of marriage-bed obedience.

The Delightful Duty of Married S*x What happens when a husband and wife engage in loving, generous, regular intimacy? They discover just how delightful a marital duty can be.

LUNCHES FOR TEENS ON MISSION

Scott Hamilton is the Missions Director for the Roanoke Valley Baptist Association. He is coordinating an effort this summer where adults and teens in churches from several different states gather here in Roanoke to provide home repair to those who wouldn't have the financial resources to have it done.

Scott is needing GRBC to provide lunch during the week of June 22-26. It doesn't have to be anything complicated. The meals will need to be delivered each day. The pastors can help deliver if you're unable. Just getting the food together would be a huge help.

If you are able and willing to help with one or more of these days, please let me (Pastor Greg) know as soon as possible. Thank you for your willingness to serve these teens and adults.

Memorial Day is an American holiday when Americans remember those in the military who died on behalf of their country. The somberness of this holiday is meant to encourage gratitude for those whose sacrifice has ensured freedom for others. Ultimately, this holiday can serve to point us to Christ’s work on the cross. It is Christ who paid the ultimate sacrifice, and it is because of Him that all who place their trust in Him experience true freedom. So whether you live in America or not, we encourage you to pray the prayer below in response to this day and the freedom it ultimately points us to in Christ.

A Prayer for Memorial Day

Dear Lord,

On this Memorial Day, we ask You to comfort those who have lost loved ones.

Give peace to those who grieve on this day.

May they find solace in Your presence and hope through Your Word.

We also thank You for those who gave up their lives for our earthly freedoms.

Thank You for the liberties and blessings that we enjoy because of their sacrifice.

As we remember their sacrifice today, may we also remember the sacrifice of Your own Son, Jesus.

The willingness of those to put their country first points us to Christ’s willingness to put us first.

Though we are sinful and wayward, Jesus went to the cross for our sake.

Jesus chose to lay down His life in our place.

Jesus chose to lay down His life for us

His blood was shed to pay the price for our sin.

It is because of Christ that we are forgiven.

It is because of Christ that we have true freedom.

We have true freedom because of Christ

So we thank You for the gift of Your Son.

We praise You for sending Him so that we can be saved.

Lord, we pray that You will humble our hearts in response to Christ’s salvation.

May we be moved to gratitude today and every day for what He has done.

And may we live out the freedom we’ve received in joyful obedience to You.

It is in Your Son’s name that we pray,

Amen.

As we think on the wedding of Alex Nelson and Rachelle Brown and all the preparations that have been made, how appropriate to think of our own preparation for the great marriage supper of the Lamb that we will experience one day with Christ and His Church. Excellent read!

Disciples pursue discipleship for the same reason a bride spends countless hours prepping for her wedding day—for the joy of the Bridegroom.

Happy birthday to Pastor Brendan! We praise God for gifting GRBC with a pastor that has such a deep passion to see God worshiped with sincerity, and through the truth of God's Word. We pray for his continued healing and strength as he continues to shepherd our flock for the glory of God.
