A couple years ago, as the pandemic accelerated the isolation and polarization in our world, a small group in Roanoke began having weekly zoom meetings.
We see the divisiveness that is prominent in our country, and we are proud that our community here in Roanoke has a reputation of collaborating across boundaries that would otherwise separate us.

Have you noticed the change in verbiage from "Civil Discourse" to "Constructive Dialogue"???
As we know better, we do better.
“Constructive Dialogue” more accurately describes how we aim to decrease polarization in the Roanoke Valley.

Do you agree?
"By listening to people’s criticisms with an ear toward understanding their pain points, it moves me as a journalist from a defensive posture to a learning posture.
And in a learning posture, I am better able to appreciate the ways problems affect people."
Commentary: We want to trust others; we’ve forgotten how DELIVERING and hearing criticism is not something innate to any of us. Rather, it’s one of the many so-called soft skills that must be learned.
