9 months of community, connection, and impact. 💛

From supporting families and students, to community events, advocacy, and creating spaces where people feel seen and supported—these past nine months have been filled with moments that remind us why this work matters.

Every photo represents more than an event. It represents relationships built, stories shared, milestones celebrated, and communities coming together.

As we look back on everything we’ve accomplished so far this year, one thing remains constant: HMI is committed to continuing this work with care, purpose, and community at the center.

Thank you to every client, volunteer, partner, supporter, and community member who has been part of the journey. There is still more work to do—and we’re grateful to keep doing it together.

Aleksandra recently lost her mother in Ukraine, and while grieving from afar, her family in the U.S. is also navigating a very difficult time. Aleksandra has 3 children to care for and was already facing many challenges because of war and relocation before this loss happened.

The death of her mother has placed an even heavier burden on the family during an already painful and unstable time, and Nika, our UNSP Community Liaison, wanted to step in and help support Aleksandra as she tries to honor her mother and manage the funeral costs.

Sewing the threads of community 🧵🪡

Newcomer Afghan women come together in our classroom to learn and practice practical skills: reading patterns, running machines, working with U.S. sizing and measurements. But what keeps them coming back is everything that happens alongside it. Practicing English. Building friendships. Trading the kind of ideas that turn into a small business. ✨

This week, we’re taking our community’s voices to Congress 📣

HMI is proud to join We Are All America for National Refugee Advocacy Days, August 17 through 21, advocating alongside communities across the country for refugees and immigrants.

Throughout the week, we’ll be connecting with members of Congress to bring attention to the realities facing refugee and immigrant communities and advocate for policies that protect access to safety, opportunity, and belonging.

But advocacy doesn’t only happen in meetings with elected officials.

Your voice matters too.
