The Riverside Concert Band and Swing Ensemble

n enjoying playing in a group. The band performs music of general appeal appropriate to each concert local and audience. This includes movie and show tunes, big band and Dixieland music, light classics, and the ever popular patriotic medleys and marches. Concerts are presented in parks, libraries, retirement homes, schools, and churches, for civic, service, and social organizations. The band has performed at Disneyland, the Nixon Memorial Library, and other noted locations. We have played at the dedication of buildings and parks for our city, county, and state. The band played in 1892 for the placing of the time capsule in the cornerstone of the Riverside County Courthouse and duplicated that concert one hundred years later when the capsule was opened in 1992. In 2010, Riverside Concert Band formed a Swing Ensemble to provide a smaller group to accommodate venues which could not house the full 40 member Concert Band. They perform swing and jazz music from the '40s, 50's, and 60's. The talented musicians who perform in this smaller ensemble do double duty by playing in the Concert Band as well. Membership is open to anyone with a musical background and who enjoys playing in a fine band. Age is no problem as the band members range from teens to eighties. The Riverside Concert Band, Swing Ensemble, and Jazz Combo are a non-profit organization supported in part by grants from the Riverside Arts Foundation, honorariums, and donations. We are privileged to have Ray Pedroza as our Band Director. Ray is a long-time educator in music and an accomplished musician.
