GSI Youth Braiding Camp – Class Description

The GSI Youth Braiding Camp is a hands-on summer program designed to empower girls ages 10–15 through the art of braiding, self-expression, and entrepreneurship. More than just a hair class, this camp teaches practical skills that build confidence, creativity, patience, and self-sufficiency.

Participants will learn foundational braiding techniques, proper hair care practices, parting methods, braid patterns, and styling fundamentals in a fun, supportive, and encouraging environment. Girls will also explore personal development topics including leadership, teamwork, professionalism, goal setting, and entrepreneurship.

Throughout the program, students will practice on mannequins and live models while developing skills that can become a lifelong talent, side business, or future career pathway. The camp concludes with a Graduation and Showcase Day where participants can demonstrate their newly acquired skills and celebrate their accomplishments with family and friends.

* Schedule: Every Tuesday in July
* Time: 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM
* Cost: $99 Registration Fee
* Includes: Braiding instruction, workbook, practice materials, certificate of completion, snacks, activities, and graduation celebration

Today marked the last day of the "Nonprofit Management" module of the UCR University Extension Professional Certificate in Nonprofit Management course, the foundational module in this comprehensive 35-week program. Thanks to instructor Brad Ward for teaching this fundamental part of the program!
