The news out of Tumbler Ridge is devastating.

When something like this happens, it shakes a community to its core. People are grieving. People are afraid. People are searching for answers.

My thoughts are with everyone impacted. Please reach out to those you know in the community. They will need support in the days and weeks ahead.

HIV is still a serious health issue, and we cannot afford to treat it like it’s a thing of the past. People living with HIV deserve equal access to life-saving medication, healthcare, and insurance coverage, just like anyone else. Unfortunately, stigma and systemic barriers continue to prevent many from receiving the care they need.

In the fight against HIV, it’s not just about treatment—it’s about ensuring that everyone has access to prevention methods and that those living with the virus are not treated as if they are less worthy of care. We need to break the harmful stigmas around HIV, educate people on the realities of living with it, and push for policies that make healthcare more accessible and affordable for all.

Currently, many face challenges when it comes to getting the medications and treatments they need, and this has a direct impact on their health outcomes. Everyone deserves the right to live without fear of discrimination or the emotional and physical burden of navigating an unjust healthcare system.

We can’t wait for the world to change on its own—we have to push for it. Access to HIV medication, treatment, and prevention methods should be a universal right. Together, let’s stand up against stigma, support those living with HIV, and make sure that care is available to all, regardless of background or status.

Let’s keep fighting to create a future where HIV is no longer a source of shame, but a community where everyone has the support they need to live their healthiest life.

šŸŽ‰ December is Human Rights Month! Let’s be clear: human rights should be a 365-day affair, but I’ll take the extra attention for the month. šŸ˜‰ Let’s spend this month doing what we do best—fighting for the rights of EVERYONE.

Whether it’s advocating for LGBTQ+ rights, accessibility, or simply treating each other with the respect we deserve, let’s make this month one to remember. If you’re not in it for everyone’s rights, it’s time to rethink what we’re all about. šŸ™ƒ

šŸ’ø It’s Giving Tuesday!
So, here’s the deal: Let’s make the world a better place, one small act of kindness at a time. Whether it’s donating your time, money, or just some good vibes, today is all about giving. I’m giving you my usual wisdom (you’re welcome), but seriously, think about what you can contribute to someone’s life today.

Oh, and if you want to donate to the ā€œMake Michael’s Coffee Fundā€ā€¦ I’m not opposed. šŸ˜‚ But for real—give where it counts.

Tomorrow is International Day of Persons with Disabilities. It’s a day to acknowledge the lived experiences of individuals with disabilities and reflect on how we can better support them—not just today, but every day.

Disability is not something to be fixed, and it’s not about charity—it’s about equity. It’s about understanding that everyone has different experiences, and those differences should be respected, valued, and supported.

Rather than focusing on what people with disabilities can’t do, let’s think about what they can do when they have the right support. Today is a reminder that everyone deserves equal opportunities, respect, and dignity, regardless of their physical abilities.

This isn’t just a day to be mindful of accessibility—it’s a chance to reaffirm our commitment to inclusion.

🦃 Thanksgiving Is Here! 🦃

Thanksgiving is all about food, family, and those awkward debates over who gets to carve the turkey. And let’s not forget the real meaning of Thanksgiving—stuffing yourself with pie while someone asks if ChatGPT can cook the turkey next year. Spoiler: It can’t, but it would nail the recipe! 🄧

Pass the gravy, pass the love, and remember: life is better when everyone has a seat at the table. Happy Thanksgiving, friends! šŸāœØ

As an IDEA SME, I often get asked, ā€œMichael, what is gender-affirming language?ā€ Well, let me break it down:

Gender-affirming language means using words, names, and pronouns that respect and reflect someone’s true gender identity. It’s not just polite—it’s essential for creating inclusive spaces where everyone feels valued and seen.

āœ… Using someone’s chosen name and pronouns
āœ… Swapping gendered terms like ā€œladies and gentlemenā€ for ā€œeveryoneā€
āœ… Avoiding assumptions about someone’s gender based on appearance

It’s not about being perfect—it’s about making an effort. Words have power, and gender-affirming language is a small but meaningful way to show respect and support for Trans and gender diverse individuals.

Let’s use language that lifts people up, not boxes them in! 🌟
