A favorite around here... we repeat this all winter with or without snow. Colored ice blocks. Add food coloring and water to molds (muffin tin, recyclables, yogurt containers) then let freeze until solid. When you are ready to take the ice out make it easy by dipping container into some warm water (the outside). The ice will pop right out.

Snow volcano! Use a small container in a mountain of snow pour colored vinegar into the bowl containing baking soda and some dish soap. Easy, and exciting...

We are trying out natural material ice blocks... we used orange peels in water (in a muffin tin) and they came out beautifully. I am thinking flower petals, small pine branches, or cranberries would be beautiful! Any other ideas?
Bonus the wildlife gets a snack or the garden gets some compost like material when the ice melts!

When the snow lasts so long it’s starting to look grey, or whenever you need a mood boost paint the snow! Water and a few drops of food coloring into a spray bottle and you have snow paint. Need something easier? Try condiment squeeze bottles for a simple modification. 🎨

The perfect day for colored ice blocks... we use old yogurt containers and liquid watercolors but you can easily use any mold (even balloons) add some food coloring and leave outside to freeze. Simple, colorful and so much fun!
