The mission of Disaster Relief Transport is to provide timely logistical land, sea and air support for Relief Organizations when delivering emergency food, clothing, aid and shelter to victims of disasters. DRT was formed to meet the needs of relief organizations that transport emergency supplies to victims of natural and man-made disasters around the world. Response time is crit

ical to victims and the cost of transportation is a concern for the relief organizations. DRT desires to fulfill the needs of both groups by providing air, land and sea transport at no cost or reduced cost to the relief organizations. Organization
Disaster Relief Transport (DRT) is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit corporation established in 2009 for the specific purpose of providing timely air transport services in support of established relief organizations that deliver emergency supplies to victims of disasters. DRT is organized as a 501 (c) (3) charitable organization under federal law. Its activities are governed by a board of directors with technical and professional guidance from an advisory board. DRT is prepared to provide land, sea and air transport to deliver emergency supplies in cooperation with relief organizations to the victims of disasters. This enables relief organizations to focus their resources, time and energy on collecting and preparing supplies for the victims of disasters. The costs of transporting a plane load of supplies from the United States to a foreign country may range from $50,000 to more than $350,000 per flight, depending on the size of the plane and the distance of the flight. Since relief organizations have to pay these transportation costs, their resources are then diverted from the purchase and collection of supplies to their delivery. History
The conception of Disaster Relief Transport was generated out of a need to deliver emergency relief supplies to victims of either natural or man-made disasters. In these situations, existing organizations, such as Catholic Charities, Red Cross and LDS Charities, generally do not have a shortage of supplies, but a challenge in transporting supplies to the affected areas in a timely manner and at a reasonable cost. DRT provides the transportation of these goods and is structured to provide land sea and air transport in order to distribute relief goods to disaster areas. Each tragedy is a mission unto itself. When a community based organization (CBO) contracts with an air cargo or plane leasing company to utilize their planes, they may discover that the delivery will not be as time efficient. These companies ship the goods or provide the plane as “fill-in” during their regular operations. Consequently, the emergency supplies may be flown to other destinations, arriving at the disaster site after a circuitous route and delays. DRT, in contrast, endeavors to deliver the emergency supplies from the pickup point directly to disaster areas.

DRT is pleased to report that they have committed to assist in the relief for victims of Super Typhoon Maysak, which hit the Federated States of Micronesia on March 29, 2015. This photo from Micronesia Red Cross Society depicts damage being reported as the worst natural disaster to hit in 20 – 30 years.

DRT is pleased to report that it delivered over 24,000 lbs. of medical relief supplies to the Navy’s medical mission ship the USNS Mercy and the USNS Millinocket. These medical supplies will aide disaster victims and those desperately in need of humanitarian aid in Fuji, the Philippines, Papua New Guinea, Kirbati, Micronesia and the Solomon Islands. DRT is pleased to announce that it aided in the relief efforts in Vanuatu, an island chain in the South Pacific between Australia and Fiji. On March 14, Cyclone Pam, a category-five storm, damaged 90% of Vanuatu’s buildings. This news clip showing an AP news service photo reveals the extent of the damage.

DRT is currently in the process of helping the victims of Hurricane Sandy on Staten Island. A truck with emergency supplies (blankets, diapers, cleaning supplies) is currently heading up from Charlotte, NC and should arrive around 2:00 am.
