The lifespan of a TAMUK Composite is estimated to be 8-10 years.

The size of TAMUK rabbits can vary, but adults should weigh at least 10 pounds. TAMUK Composites are usually ready for processing at around 10 weeks or once they reach 5 pounds.

TAMUK rabbits come in various colors, including agouti and black, blue, chocolate, lilac, creme and opal, seal, Siamese, chinchilla, Himalayan, albino, steel, harlequin (Japanese and magpie), and red.

The TAMUK rabbits, with their long ears and thin fur coats, can handle the hot and dry summers better than any of the individual breeds.

TAMUK rabbits are considered a composite breed because they are a mix of seven different breeds. They were originally created by Dr. Steven Lukefahr at Texas A&M University – Kingsville. He wanted to develop a robust and productive meat breed that could withstand heat and had a range of coat colors. The seven breeds used in the crossbreeding are New Zealand Red, Siamese Satin, Californian, New Zealand White, Dutch, Champagne d'Argent, Harlequin, and Havana.

The rabbits we raise are called TAMUK Composite Rabbits. We chose this breed because they were specifically bred to have a variety of coat colors and to tolerate heat well.
