Come support Troop 5 as we fundraise to get to Alaska this summer for camp.

The Court of Honor ceremony for Troop 5 took place last night, where proud mothers were pinned by their scouts. Congratulations to the mothers and their scouts! Sammy and quite a few scouts earned some really cool merit badges these last six months! Sammy received seven merit badges at the ceremony! Way to go troop 5!

“ONE HUNDRED SCOUTS”

Of any 100 boys who will become Scouts, it must be confessed that 30 will drop out in their first year. Perhaps this may be regarded as failure, but in later life all of these will remember that they had been Scouts and will speak well of the program. Of the 100, only rarely will one ever appear before a juvenile court judge. 12 of the 100 will be from families that belong to no church. Through Scouting, these 12 and many of their families will brought into contact with a church and will continue to be active all their lives. 6 of the 100 will become pastors. Each of the 100 will learn something from Scouting. Almost all will develop hobbies that will add interest throughout the rest of their lives. Approximately ½ will serve in the
military, and in varying degrees, profit from their scouts training. At least 1 will use it to save another person’s life, and many will credit it with saving their own. 4 of the 100 will reach Eagle rank, and at least one will later say that he valued his Eagle above his college degree. Many will find their future vocation through merit badge work
and Scouting contacts. 17 of the 100 boys will later become Scout leaders and will give leadership to thousands of additional boys.
Only 1 in 4 boys in America will become Scouts, but it is interesting to know that of the
leaders of this nation in business, politics, and religion, 3 out of 4 were Scouts. This story will never end. Like the “Golden Pebble” of service dropped into the human seas it will continue to radiate in ever-widening circles, influencing the character of men down through unending time.

Congratulations to the following scouts! Sammy Arteaga, Dylan Banks and Michael Crossley for earning some really cool merit badges. Sammy and Dylan earned their Archaeology merit badge today! Also, Sammy and Michael earned their Nuclear science merit badge last week. Michael and Dylan earned their Soil and water conservation MB a couple of weeks ago. Good job Scouts! Keep earning those merit badges!
