Founded in 1860, the public transit system known today as GRTC is jointly owned by the City of Richmond and Chesterfield County. The transit agency was purchased from private owners and incorporated as GRTC on April 12, 1973, for the purpose of providing public transportation service in the Greater Richmond area. The GRTC Board of Directors has approved GRTC’s FY2027 budget, continuing fare-free transit for another fiscal year while investing in reliable service, accessibility improvements, and major transit projects across the region. 🚌
