Here's the latest on Morrisson-Reeves Library's plans to reopen.
On Friday, March 13, a local power outage caused a malfunction in Morrisson-Reeves Library’s back elevator, resulting in significant smoke in the building. All staff and patrons were safely evacuated. The library was closed for the rest of the day to allow for proper ventilation. Fortunately, there was no fire and no structural damage.
We would like to extend our gratitude to Richmond Fire Department, Centerville Fire/Rescue, and Richmond Police Department. Their quick arrival and swift action in identifying the issue and shutting down power to the elevator ensured the safety of our building and patrons.
The library has been thoroughly ventilated so Morrisson-Reeves Library will reopen for normal operating hours on Saturday. Our back elevator will remain out of service until repairs can be completed.

Great news! We can now accept donations of gently used books, puzzles, movies, music, video games, board games, etc., in our little red wagon just inside the front doors of Morrisson-Reeves Library (to the right, near the children's department), when the library is open. We know folks are eager to donate again, and we truly appreciate your generosity. Please help us keep the area near the wagon orderly as our volunteers begin gathering the donations and taking them to our sorting area as their schedules permit. If the area is looking overwhelmed, please consider bringing in your items on your next trip to the library.
We hope you'll continue shopping our $1 racks near the circulation desk that are available anytime the library is open.
If you have a large donation of items (more than a box or two), please email [email protected] to make arrangements for a volunteer to meet you.

BOOK SALE UPDATE: Dear Friends (and prospective Friends), we need to delay the opening of the Wednesday, Jan. 28, Friends preview shopping event until 4 p.m. that day. Wayne County is under a travel warning restricting non-essential travel until noon Wednesday. Our volunteers need time to get the inventory set up for an organized shopping experience. We appreciate your patience as we try to still have a sale despite the challenging weather. Thank you! (File photo from last book sale).
Stock up on books this week at our sale. We offer great gifts for many occasions!
