I work with people to find courage and calm in their anxiety and overthinking!

As the director of student-led mental health advocacy on campus, I'm always trying to think of ways that we can reach more students! I want to share a success story from just a couple weeks ago. 🙌

At the end of Winter Semester, I approached my supervisor with the idea to create a mental health event on campus! My idea was to implement "Chillfest", an event that I had learned about from other universities around the country. This event would help students have fun while also learning techniques for stress-reduction and test anxiety before finals.

Last semester (Fall), we officially created and implemented BYU-I's very own Chillfest! We received help from 15 other departments. Students came from all around campus to create their own stress balls, paint, practice origami, draw, play board games, write in journals, and much more.

It was amazing to see a simple idea grow into a large-scale event that would greatly impact the mental health needs on campus!🧠

I had the opportunity to film this a couple weeks ago! We as the HOPE Council partnered with I-Serve to offer an on campus painting activity while boothing about the importance of mental health awareness! 🙌

This has been a game changer for me as I experience anxiety or stress!

- Observe your thoughts/emotions without judgement.
- Notice when you get caught up in thinking.
- Return to simply observing your thoughts/emotions.

The key is to remember that you are not your thoughts. You are the person observing your thoughts. Simply let them come and go. 🫶

This semester I have had the opportunity to be a part of the Student Leadership Coordination Council at Brigham Young University - Idaho!🤠

I am able to represent the HOPE Council at these meetings, and continue to emphasize the importance of mental health.

Trainings are the best 🙌 I was able to give one on boundaries and burnout to the student mentors on campus! What a great group :)

It really is okay.

“Efforts to avoid, ignore or suppress emotions that are appropriate to context can isolate someone in their time of need, thereby perpetuating the stigma that mental health issues equate to weak-mindedness,”

- Dr. Jaime Zuckerman

A big part of what I do at BYUI is boothing🗣️

Running a booth is a great way to reach students on campus, who might want information about mental health or emotional resources on campus. 🧠

Take a Moment and Use Your Senses🙏

- What can you see? (10 Sec)
- What can you hear? (10 Sec)
- What can you feel? (10 Sec)
- What can you taste? (10 Sec)
- What can you smell? (10 Sec)

This will help you to get out of your head and into the present moment🤗
