Silver strings BlackBerry. (NFS) this girl surprised us! I really thought she was solid black until Katy said nope… that’s gold tipped Steele.

Sure enough, her sire is a Steele carrier!!!! We had planned to grow her out knowing she is more of a false dwarf than true dwarf, because, we need the mass. Knowing she is a gold tipped Steele is just a fun color genetics surprise!

All of our bucks that are proven, are true dwarves so we want to even things out a little and hang on to the biggens when they come. 🥰🥰🥰

Every rabbitry has a “big ugly doe” that they adore who brings a wealth of mass to the smaller true dwarves. BlackBerry might be big, but she sure ain’t ugly!

I think the biggest dewlap award should go to my home grown girl Pickles. It comes in handy to try and get her to keep her head up when we are posing 😅

If you could only keep one…. Who are you choosing and why?

Left is the father, senior buck.
Right is his son, still a junior.

⭐️A VA I L A B L E ⭐️ orange vc doe. This girl is a looker!!!! She would be staying right here if it weren’t for the fact that we have an almost identical orange doe as well 🫣

She is bold and cute and curious and super friendly! Her parents were paired to produce; short front limbs, strong shoulders, and good top lines while maintaining the color we love. So far, she looks like she will fit all those requirements. Obviously she’s super young still but I’m excited for her! I think she would be an excellent asset for maintaining good type in your color project.

Nope not a Charlie, and does not carry WE. Why is why soooo white? Honestly… Vienna gene? Does he have blue eyes? Nope, not those either. This boy is just a vc broken black tort and he is A V A I L A B L E!!!

Mom is a vm b/o harlequin and dad is a show line broken black. The purpose of that paring was to add a better top line while maintaining short from limbs, and a thicker over all body in BEW lines. This boy is looking like he is a good candidate for all of those things! The only reason we aren’t holding him back is because we are holding back is brother and we already have way too many bucks 😆

I think he would be a great asset to any breeding program or be a happy appy little fluff ball pal in your bedroom.

P.s.- the warm tone in the first picture is not a filter. It’s the automatic white balance of my camera 🤷🏻‍♀️

My beautiful Rexes! Can you tell who was scared to be on the counter and who didn’t care? 🫣😬

1st is Alice: broken blue
2nd is Big Blue : blue buck
3rd is Abigail: castor doe (she’s terrified and I felt really bad about it, usually she’s not scared)
4th Ferdinand : brindle buck.

Over the last month things in my personal life have sort of exploded…. Again…. ( ) Which is fine… I’m used to handling it. It would be nice if crisiss would happen one at a time but you know… it’s whatever 😑What I’m not used to however… is fully crashing out. I’m not throwing chairs or anything, (SLOMW 😳) I just needed a good cry. My animals frequently remind me to just sit down. Sit down, phone down, computer down, all the downs. Just sit and be in the present moment. It’s reeeeaaallly hard for me to just sit down and stop doing all the things.

Everyone is asking for an update on the littlest floof from Pickles litter. Unfortunately she didn’t make it 😣 her passing was really hard.

Why do I even share it? Well, it’s reality. This is the real part of breeding animals that gets glossed over by backyard breeders. I think not talking about the hard parts is what influences people to become backyard breeders on the first place. The majority of a breeders page are beautiful aesthetic pictures showcasing the highlights. That’s ok. It’s happy. It’s cute. We all love cute animals! It makes it seem like it’s all rainbows and butterflies with a nice paycheck at the end.

But it’s not the entire story. And that paycheck? 😬 yeah good luck with that.

There is a lot of “sad” involved with breeding and trying to improve the breed. It’s hard work and often very expensive. My vets office knows my phone number and email address off the top of their heads because I am there so often! Spaying, neutering, health checks, it’s not always a sickness or an emergency when we go.

Basically, if you are going to follow an ethical, open, and honest breeder/farmer/rancher/homesteader, there will be some sad amongst the happy. This beautiful baby fought so hard for each day of her life. We fought right along with her.

Silver String’s Boysenberry “graduated” to her new home this last weekend. I am very excited for her! She got the best traits from her mom and dad so I am very excited to see how she does in her new home.
