Coffee With The Desert Master Chatting about the event with Rui is a detail-driven exercise, and one that leaves you with an impression of consummate competence. He is a steward who sweats everything, large and small, with a seemingly simple goal - to make the event the best of its kind anywhere. And that's particularly appeal…

1977 Ford Es**rt Mk2 1.3GL It is one of the most involving roads I have ever driven, crisscrossing streams and small bridges, plunging into old stone tunnels, diving downhill with series after series of sweeping S-bends, and then climbing back up alongside old railway tracks. The best of Asturias packed into one challenging…

1983 Mercedes-Benz 280GE The Geländewagen, or “G-Wagen” as it is often called, was designed at a time when Mercedes-Benz quite frankly didn’t make many mistakes. It is from a time long before BMW and Audi were considered competitors, and long before the likes of Lexus and Infiniti came along to eat into market share. The…

1982 Land Rover Santana 88 Normal The drive from Caceres, a city on the far western edge of Spain, down to Cadiz on the southwestern coast, is a route steeped in history. It's part of the "Via de la Plata," an old Roman trade route that runs north/south along the western edge of the country, many cobbled sections of which, includin…

Our friends at Valencia Classic Vehicles are offering a tasty morsel. BMW e30 325ix Touring. Be the first on your block...
1989 BMW 325ix Touring That's the one word I would used to describe this 325ix Touring. "Alive." The famous e30 foible, the rear suspension that has a propensity for lift-throttle oversteer, is to me one if its greatest strengths. Much like an air-cooled Porsche 911, the reputation for flying off into the weeds ass-fir…

Muscling a big Landy along the A-317 through the Sierra Cazorla National Park in Spain is a beautiful but exhausting business. If I keep this up, I'll have shoulders the size of cantaloupes...

WILL THEY TAKE A CHECK?
This Thursday, at Quail Lodge, Bonhams will be offering a Ferrari 250GTO that has been owned by only one person for 49 years. Needless to say, it is likely to vaporize a record or two in the process. Any guesses as to what it will sell for?

AutoNOVA IN SPAIN: Currently ensconsed on the Costa Blanca, we're falling in love with a lot of the beautifully styled new Citroens. And here's something interesting. The new Citroen C4 "Cactus." A version of the C4 with sightly raised ride height and tough polymer "armor" on the doors, bumpers and corners. The result is a small urban assault vehícle to take on the bumps and bruises of tight city streets. What do you think? Clever or hideous?
