Toxicology is the science that studies the adverse effects induced in an organism by chemical, physical or biological factors. It involves a thorough knowledge of both the chemical substance and the organism and the interaction between them.

Toxicology is not only devoted to describing the adverse effects and the mechanisms that mediate them, but also to studying the prevention and treatment of toxicity.

A modern perspective on toxicology requires a cross-disciplinary approach in differentiating between hazards and risks and their assessment.

La toxicología es la ciencia que estudia los efectos adversos inducidos en un organismo por factores químicos, físicos o biológicos. Involucra un conocimiento exhaustivo tanto de la sustancia química como del organismo y la interacción entre ellos.

La toxicología no solo se dedica a describir los efectos adversos y los mecanismos que los median, también estudia la prevención y el tratamiento de la toxicidad.

Una perspectiva moderna de la toxicología requiere un enfoque transversal en la diferenciación entre peligros y riesgos y la evaluación de ellos.

Register for the IUTOX 16th International Congress of Toxicology taking place in Maastricht, The Netherlands, from Sept. 18–21, 2022. The congress will include an inspiring scientific program in which the state of the art is presented as well as reflections on great achievements in recent years. Special attention is paid to the early career toxicologist by giving them a special platform for oral communications.

The late-breaking abstract and standard registration deadline is August 31.

Register for an IUTOX webinar taking place Jan. 11 titled “Risk Assessment of Drug-Induced Liver Toxicity.” Dr. Jose Manautou will review basic principles of Drug-induced liver injury (DILI), standard and novel translational biomarkers of DILI, and evaluation of DILI risk during drug development.

An IUTOX webinar taking place on Dec. 7 will review the history of toxicology in drug development, the overarching principles of regulatory guidance, and current best practices.
