🐾 Working Dogs Need More Than Just a Walk 🐾

Many of the dogs that come through Northwest Working Breed Rescue were bred to do a job. Whether it's herding livestock, tracking scents, guarding property, or working alongside people, these dogs were designed to use both their bodies and their brains.

When working breeds don't have appropriate outlets for that energy, they can become bored, frustrated, or develop behaviors that people often mistake for being "difficult." In reality, many of these dogs are simply looking for something productive to do.

The good news? Enrichment doesn't have to be complicated or expensive.

Simple activities like sniff walks, puzzle feeders, short training sessions, hide-and-seek games, tug, and food enrichment can provide meaningful mental stimulation while strengthening your bond with your dog.

Mental exercise can be just as tiring as physical exercise, and often a combination of both helps dogs feel more balanced, confident, and successful.

Pawfest 2026 is just 11 days away. We will be there with our friends from Northwest Rescue Northwest Rescue Collective with some dogs to meet and information to share. If you would like to volunteer to help with holding a leash for a dog for the event please reach out to us.

Join us and Regional Animal Services of King County for a fun-filled morning celebrating at PawFest!
We’ll have adoptable pets looking for their forever homes, on-site pet licensing, a crowd-favorite pet costume contest, live demos from local trainers, food trucks, and more.
