As temperatures rise and wildfire seasons grow more severe across Nevada, employers face a new reality: heat illness and wildfire smoke are no longer just workplace safety concerns—they are compliance obligations. Nevada’s heat illness prevention requirements and new wildfire smoke regulations are increasing expectations around written programs, employee training, monitoring, and documentation.
Organizations that take a proactive approach today will be better positioned to protect their employees, reduce regulatory exposure, and avoid costly disruptions tomorrow.
Key areas employers should be reviewing now include:
☀️ Heat illness prevention programs
☀️ Job hazard analyses and documentation practices
☀️ Employee training and communication protocols
☀️ Air quality monitoring procedures
☀️ Wildfire smoke response planning
The trend is clear: environmental health risks are becoming a core part of workplace compliance and risk management. Employers who prepare now will be better equipped to navigate both regulatory expectations and operational challenges.
LP’s Risk Management and HR Consulting teams are helping employers evaluate current programs, identify gaps, and prepare for evolving Nevada OSHA requirements.

🌇Southern Nevada Construction Is Growing Fast. So Are the Risks.
From resort reinvestment and industrial expansion to healthcare, infrastructure, and housing projects, construction activity across Southern Nevada continues to move at a strong pace. 🏢
🚧🚧But as the market grows, so does the operational pressure on contractors and project teams. 🚧🚧
Across the industry, we’re seeing:
🏗️ Compressed project timelines
🏗️ Skilled labor shortages
🏗️ Greater reliance on subcontractors
🏗️ Rising material and replacement costs
🏗️ Increasing scrutiny from carriers around safety, documentation, and claims history
🏗️ Contracts shifting more risk downstream
In this environment, risk management becomes more than an insurance conversation. It becomes a business continuity and growth strategy conversation. 📈
The firms best positioned for long-term success are not simply focused on backlog. They’re investing in operational resilience by strengthening safety culture and fleet safety training, focusing on hiring, retention, and workforce practices, reviewing contracts proactively, managing subcontractor risk carefully, aligning coverage with evolving project exposures, and thinking years ahead — not just one project ahead.
At LP Insurance, we believe strong partnerships start with understanding the realities our clients face every day. Our role is not simply placing coverage. It’s helping construction businesses protect their ability to keep building, keep hiring, and keep growing in an increasingly complex environment.
Southern Nevada’s growth story is still being written. The contractors who thoughtfully manage today’s pressures will be best positioned to shape what comes next.

As summer approaches, time-off requests tend to spike. Vacations, long weekends and intermittent leave all start to add up. 🗂️
With that often comes the question, is this request legitimate?
It’s a natural reaction. From a risk compliance perspective, the better question is: “Are we handling leave requests consistently?”🤷♂️
The most effective organizations take a process-driven approach to every leave request because consistency–not instinct–is what protects you.
A few practical reminders as volume increases:
✔️Follow the same intake steps every time
✔️Focus on facts, not assumptions
✔️Apply policies and legal requirements consistently
✔️Equip managers with clear guidance on what to say, and what not to say
One off decisions can create exposure later. Now is a good time to pressure-test your leave process before requests peak.
If you’re not sure your approach is as consistent as it should be, LP HR Consulting can help! From a quick review of a single suspicious request to a deeper look at your overall policies and practices, we have you covered! 🎯
