Our teams are at the heart of everything we do. Most are advanced divers who have turned their passion into a purpose, documenting the underwater environments they know best through repeat visits and long-term monitoring.

Many work independently, choosing their sites and setting their goals. But the real magic happens when they connect with local conservation groups and scientists to amplify impact through collaboration.

By contributing to Project Baseline, you are joining a global team of concerned and invested citizens who share underwater observations, normally inaccessible to the public, with divers and non-divers alike. We welcome volunteer participation from all divers whether youโ€™re an advanced technical diver, a beginning scuba diver, a free diver, or a snorkeler.
https://projectbaseline.org/about/how/

At the most basic level, we ask our volunteers to perform six simple tasks while they go about their regular diving activities.

There are three (3) ways to submit data to the Project Baseline database. You can submit data for existing projects, you can submit data for projects that are not currently hosted (ad-hoc) in the database, and you can submit data via email.

โ€œThe Blue Hope Alliance is a cross-sector โ€˜Network for Natureโ€™ which connects like minded groups through a community-led citizen science survey collaboration, supported by both volunteer marine scientists and divers.

โ€œThe alliance works for the restoration of the marine ecosystem in the north west of Scotland and hopes to create a more sustainable coastal economy. They are united by a shared goal, to monitor ecosystem change. They collect data for evidence-based conservation and celebrate and protect life under the waves. Given the alignment between and goals, it was a real pleasure for to support the 2023 surveys.

โ€œThe dive team consisted of both marine scientists, underwater camera divers, and volunteer recreational divers. The project aimed to build a self sustaining citizen science survey alliance, including uniting these communities in support the recovery of the ecosystems.

Extracts from the article write of 2023 Project Baseline diver David Price, when he headed to the Scottish Highlands to assist the Blue Hope Alliance with their ongoing maerl surveys. Through hard work, collaboration, brilliant local community support, and dedication, they managed to complete a successful week of maerl and flame shell surveys to help inform future conservation efforts.
