The U.S. House of Representatives has advanced the bipartisan Clergy Act—a meaningful step toward giving pastors a second chance to re-enroll in Social Security after previously opting out early in ministry.
Supported by the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability, the bill would open a two-year window starting in 2029 for eligible clergy to re-enter the system. ECFA President & CEO, Michael Martin, called it a “welcome and reasonable” solution for many faith leaders.
Now, ECFA is urging the United States Senate to pass this important legislation.
