It has been one week since the concluding concert of this season for the Reno Wind Symphony. This program featured pieces that hold a deep connection for the group, with two absolutely wonderful soloists (Martha Damon O’Neill and Jessica Dodge-Overstreet), and was curated to honor the legend, our friend Dr. Mack. A few words about the show… “This concert set with the Reno Wind Symphony was a blast to play. The San Andreas and Emperata pieces are my kind of wind band music… a little “in your face” and a little physically demanding. The RWS is always fun, but even more so this time than usual!“ - Steve (trumpet in the symphony)

2026 NAMM D.C. Music Education Advocacy Fly-In

Last week, we got to meet with members of our industry to train and head to capitol hill to meet with legislators from every state to discuss music education funding, ESSA, the power that music education has, and also some difficult industry-wide issues that have been arising in the last year. We also had a couple days to see and support theatre, the Air & Space museum, and the National Opera at Strathmore. One of the coolest events, however, was the Congressional Record, where we got to attend and witness members of congress uniting to perform music in the capitol and come together to show just how powerful the arts are through a presentation and through the music they performed.

Reno Phil Family Concert!!!

This is such an exciting event each year! This last weekend was a free family concert that offers to the community - a one-hour, interactive event with pre-concert activities for families. We offer a musical instrument petting zoo, which is an interactive, hands-on experience where kids and their families get to have an up-close view of the instruments they’re about to see on stage, and try them out!!! Thank you to .michael.07 for joining us on this busy day and helping run the event and to the awesome RPYO volunteers who shared their passion with these families!

Crazy Whirlwind Special Delivery!

So we must start this post by saying that the Reno Jazz Festival prep is intense. Which is what we were doing last Thursday when a palette of 5 Timpani was delivered to our back door for Truckee. Fun fact: They don’t fit through the door!!

We quickly borrowed a trailer, a bit less quickly loaded them up, and took them to our garage to store for a few days. You don’t see that driving down the highway very often! Looks a bit like Ludwig brand fridges. 🤔 On Monday, Steve & Bruce loaded them into a U-Haul (yeah… for going up a mountain that’s far safer) and took them to Truckee. Where all the wheels had to be taken off and then put back on to get them thru their doors!

Sometimes, life is chaotic, and then reminds you it can always be even more hectic. But we did it and are so excited for this school and their new timpani!!!
