Working parents of children with disabilities donât âuse PTO like everyone else.â
They often use it to cover medical reality
⢠surgeries + hospital stays
⢠therapy + specialist visits
⢠school meetings + urgent calls
⢠flare-ups that donât respect calendars
So when the parent needs an actual break to recover⌠thereâs nothing left.
And then it can turn into stress on both sides:
Parents feel judged. Managers feel stuck. HR gets pulled into a situation thatâs bigger than policy.
Run Saniyah Run is pro-family AND pro-employer.
The goal is simple: support caregiver employees and protect team operations.
3 practical fixes that help everyone:
â
1) Separate Caregiver Leave (even small)
A dedicated paid bank prevents âvacationâ from being used for medical crises.
â
2) Predictable flexibility (not chaos)
Intermittent leave planning, appointment-friendly scheduling, and remote options when possibleâso teams can plan coverage.
â
3) Clear process + manager training
Consistency matters. A simple guide for managers reduces confusion, protects privacy, and prevents unfair assumptions.
If youâre HR or leadership: whatâs the biggest challenge you face supporting caregiver employees while keeping operations running?
If youâre a caregiver employee: what one change would help you most?

The real help begins at home.
Most people see a special needs parent âdoing fineâ at work.
What they donât see is the second shift that starts the moment they get home.
Home can mean therapies, paperwork, safety monitoring, medications, meals, meltdowns, and zero sleepâwhile life still keeps coming: cleaning, laundry, dinner, car repairs, and everything in between.
And too often, societyâs message is: âThatâs your child, so you deal with it.â
Love doesnât cancel exhaustion. Families need practical supportâwhere the stress actually lives.
Hereâs how coworkers, family, and friends can truly help:
â
Send dinner (a real meal)
â
Cover a house cleaning
â
Help with a car repair or ride support
â
Take one task off their plate without making them manage it
Thatâs why Run Saniyah Run exists. We help reduce the load by coordinating real-life support like house cleaning, restaurant dinner delivery, and help with car repairsâso parents can breathe and stay standing.
If you want to support a special needs family or partner with us to help more parents, message me.

Weâre done âraising awareness.â Weâre building support that actually shows up.
If youâre raising a child with special needs, you donât need another inspirational post.
You need resources, relief, and people who understand the system.
Thatâs what Run Saniyah Run is here to do â across Delaware.
What weâre actively doing for parents (real services)
Resource navigation (so families donât have to figure it out alone)
Support and wellness programming (because burnout is real)
Connections to local services and community support
Advocacy guidance for parents who are tired of being ignored
And for employers, we offer a free 30â45 minute lunch-hour session to support employees raising children with special needs. No cost. Practical. Easy to implement.
But Iâm not posting this to talk at you.
I want to hear from the people living it:
Parents/caregivers: What is the #1 resource you wish you had right now?
(Example: respite care, therapy access, school advocacy, transportation, benefits help, emotional support, other)
HR/leaders: What is one caregiver support practice your company would actually defend as ârealâ â not just compliant?
Drop one line in the comments. If youâre not comfortable sharing publicly, message this page and weâll respond.
Weâre building this with you â not for optics.

Snow day. Schools closed.
Calendar full.
Routine⌠gone. âď¸
If youâre working from home with a special needs child today, hear this:
You are not aiming for 100%.
Lower the bar. Aim for 60%.
Regulation > productivity.
Survival with dignity counts.
Front-load your most important work.
Use a visual schedule.
Build in movement, sensory breaks, and flex time.
And when it falls apart?
Mute the call. Meet the need.
The meeting can waitâyour child canât.
Adaptability is your superpower.
Youâre not failing. Youâre doing the impossible. đ

Run Saniyah Run
đ Run Saniyah Run Needs Your Help Today đ
Family and friends â this message is not easy for us to post.
We rarely ever reach out on social media asking for help, but the need in our community has grown beyond what we can cover on our own.
Across Delaware, parents of special-needs children are calling us for help with food, gas, Christmas gifts, and basic necessities. And for the first time, weâve had to say âwe donât have it.â
That is painful.
Our mission is to support these parents â and we refuse to give up on them.
Right now, we urgently need cash donations of ANY amount or local in-kind donations, including:
⢠Supermarket gift cards
⢠Gas cards
⢠Christmas toys
⢠Or a direct cash contribution
You can drop off donations at our fundraiser store, or we will come pick them up â just call (302) 827-3380.
If you prefer to support through our fundraising products, you can also place an order for Na Naâs Candy Kloudz cotton candy. We offer pick-up, delivery, and shipping, and every purchase helps us serve more families.
âď¸ Donate online: www.runsaniyahrun.org
âď¸ Cash App: $RunSaniyahRun
âď¸ Any gift of $250+ will receive an official tax-deductible donation receipt letter.
Your help makes a direct, real difference.
These parents are overwhelmed and fighting battles most people never see. Something as simple as a gas card or a few bags of groceries can change their entire week.
Please help us continue saying âyes, we can help you.â
Thank you for always standing with us. đâ¨
