What if a language barrier stood in the way of someone getting help?
Our Axon body-worn cameras now have a new real-time translation feature that can translate 56 languages with the push of a button. The technology helps officers communicate more effectively, reduce confusion, and better serve our diverse community.
The feature also automatically transcribes conversations, helping officers document incidents more accurately and efficiently.
Whether you're a Redmond resident or visiting from around the world, we're investing in technology that helps us communicate better and provide the service our community expects.

π Traffic Enforcement in Action
On June 17 at about 8:20 a.m., one of our Motor Officers was conducting speed and distracted-driving emphasis patrols near Union Hill Road and Avondale Road NE when he stopped a driver traveling 56 mph in a 40-mph zone.
While making the traffic stop, the officer observed another driver pull up to the adjacent stoplight and actively use a cell phone. The officer contacted that driver and directed him to pull over as well.
Two citations were issued: one for speeding and one for using a handheld cell phone while driving.
These targeted enforcement efforts support the City of Redmond's commitment to Safer Streets and the Redmond Police Department's ongoing work to reduce collisions, particularly in areas where traffic concerns have been identified.
Remember: slow down, stay focused, and put the phone away. A few seconds of distraction can have lifelong consequences.

π Hot weather is here! As temperatures rise, take a few moments to check on neighbors, friends, and family members who may be more vulnerable to heat-related illness. Older adults, young children, and people with chronic health conditions are at greater risk. Encourage them to stay cool, limit time in the heat, and drink plenty of water throughout the day.
π Never leave children or pets in a parked vehicle, even for a short time. Temperatures inside a car can reach dangerous and deadly levels within minutes. Make it a habit to check your back seat before locking your vehicle.

Today, we recognize Juneteenth, a federal holiday commemorating June 19, 1865, when enslaved Black Americans in Galveston, Texas, learned that slavery had ended.
Juneteenth is a time to honor the resilience, achievements, and contributions of Black Americans throughout our nation's history. It is also an opportunity to reflect on the ongoing pursuit of equality, justice, and understanding.
We encourage our community to take time today to learn, reflect, and celebrate the significance of this important day.

Temperatures Are Climbing - Look Before You Lock
With temperatures expected to reach the 90s this weekend, it's important to remember that the inside of a vehicle can become dangerously hot in just minutes, even with the windows cracked.
Children and pets are especially vulnerable to heat-related illnesses, which can quickly become life-threatening.
Before you walk away from your vehicle:
πΎ Never leave pets unattended in a parked car.
πΆ Always check the back seat before locking your vehicle.
π Take your keys and lock your car to prevent children from climbing inside unnoticed.
π± Place a purse, phone, or other essential item in the back seat as a reminder to check before exiting.
π¨ If you see a child or pet in distress inside a vehicle, call 911 immediately.
This weekend's heat is a good reminder that there is no safe amount of time to leave a child or pet in a parked vehicle. Together, we can prevent tragedy and keep our community safe.

Last week, Recruiting Officer C. Tomlinson and Corporal Rehaume traveled to Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton for the First Responders Hiring Event, connecting with active-duty service members, veterans, military spouses, retirees, and family members interested in careers in public safety.
For Cpl. Rehaume, the event was especially meaningful as he had the opportunity to return to his old stomping grounds. Having been stationed at Camp Pendleton during his service in the Marine Corps, he enjoyed sharing his journey from military service to law enforcement and discussing how leadership, dedication, and teamwork developed in the military translate directly into serving our community.
The hiring event brought together more than 250 fire, EMS, and law enforcement agencies from across the country, providing attendees with a wide range of opportunities to explore careers as first responders.
Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth to learn more about the Redmond Police Department. We appreciate the opportunity to meet so many talented individuals who are committed to service and making a difference in their communities.
