Taking objects and creating something completely unexpected. I wanted to be an artist when I was young. Sadly I realized that most artists are stuggling ones.

I decided to follow a more normal path and work my day to day. Don't get me wrong I don't mind being a mechanic, but it isn't completely what I wanted to do. Along the way I learned to work with many materials. I thought metal artwork is what I wanted to do. I have recently found that I like mixed media. Add some glass or wood to a metal project and it gives it something extra. I have also found t

I had to take a break and do a bunch of organization and cleanup. Also I added a few new tools to my arsenal. But it is time to get back into creations... polished up the test table.. Just needs some legs. And had to build a shelf, but not with any old boring brackets.

A little more work on the resin table. I am liking the stain color. Next up will be polishing the resin so it is clear again and shines.
For just a test piece, and my first experience with resin, I am digging the outcome..

Got a chance to work on the test table tonight. All planed flat. Sanding started.. A little water gets a little preview of what it's gonna look like..

Welp.. Todays learning is that it looks like an electric hand planer will level this resin out real nice like. Second part to that is I will have a garbage bag of fake snow when I am done..

I have learned over the years to never expect what you envision on the first go around. And thus is why I am doing this one as a TEST table.. Next time I will seal the wood, it released a bunch of air. The resin didnt shrink as much as I thought. And when you buy GOOD hot glue it will stick to wood really well.. I am going to still work this and see what I can do..
Oh ya, extra resin poured into moulds could turn up some cool things too..

Well I finally got around to doing the next step on the test table.. I placed some stones and poured some more resin. Built myself a hot glue damn. Mixed up way too much resin. I thought I had prepared myself to not waste any by buying some silicone molds for extra.
One thing I can say, this stuff makes a mess.
Well now to wait a couple days.

I always want to work with mixed media. I dont want to stick myself in a corner doing just metal or wood or anything else. I kinda like this resin stuff. Would have a lot of cleanup if I was actually using this piece. But resin might be added to my bag-o-tricks.

2nd resin pour on the test piece for the practice piece.. Glad I did this one. Learned a few things not to do. But this little test piece is probably going to turn into something cool. Who knows what, and who knows when.

Got some things in the mail.. Was able to get back to the table project. Well really, it's a tester table. And I even went with a test piece for the test table. First time dealing with resin. Little bit of a learning curve so far..

Last night was truly awesome. Got to see a demo of a spectacular Russian blacksmith. His name is Anton Yakushev and is doing some cutting edge art in metal work.. The leprechaun had the tiniest of hands and feet. The praying mantis has amazing detail. I get to go work with him and others and make this praying mantis in about a 4ft size this weekend.
Truly inspired tonight. While I am waiting on some table materials to show up I decided it was time to get to work on rebuilding my forge tonight..
