Did you know that activity brochures are one of the most valuable tools a visitor center can offer because they encourage visitors and residents to explore the community longer, engage with local businesses, and create memorable experiences?

Some key benefits include:

1. They Turn Visitors into Explorers

Many visitors don't know where to start when they arrive. Self-guided activities such as scavenger hunts, walking tours, clock walks, or historic driving tours give them a structured way to discover the community at their own pace.

2. They Increase Time Spent in Town

When people participate in an activity, they tend to stay longer. The longer visitors remain in a destination, the more likely they are to shop, dine, and support local businesses.

3. They Support Economic Development

Activity brochures naturally lead participants to local businesses, museums, parks, and attractions. A family completing a scavenger hunt may stop for ice cream, coffee, lunch, or shopping along the way.

4. They Create Family-Friendly Experiences

Families are constantly looking for affordable activities. Brochures such as an "I Spy Downtown" hunt or a historic walking tour provide free entertainment while introducing children to local history and culture.

5. They Educate Residents About Their Own Community

Many locals discover places they never knew existed. Activity brochures help residents become ambassadors for their city and strengthen community pride.

6. They Encourage Repeat Visits

A visitor may not complete every activity in one trip. Offering multiple brochures encourages people to return to experience another tour, hunt, or challenge.

7. They Promote History and Culture

Historic walking tours, architecture guides, and heritage-themed activities help preserve and share a community's story in an engaging way.

8. They Appeal to Schools and Homeschool Programs

Teachers and homeschool groups often seek educational field trip opportunities. Activity brochures can align with history, geography, and civic learning objectives while making learning fun.

9. They Provide Sponsorship Opportunities

Brochures can feature local business sponsors, helping offset printing costs while giving businesses visibility and community goodwill.

10. They Differentiate the Visitor Center

Many visitor centers simply distribute maps and brochures. Offering unique, locally created activities demonstrates that the center is an active community resource rather than just an information desk.

For the Redlands Visitor Center specifically, brochures such as the I Spy Downtown, Downtown Scavenger Hunt, Historic Walking Tour, Clock Walk, and Orange Grove History Tour help fulfill the Center's mission by connecting residents and visitors to Redlands' history, culture, businesses, and family-friendly experiences while encouraging exploration throughout downtown and the community.

IMAGE NOTES: Did you know that the Shoe Repair Shop on the corner was a shoe shine/ repair shop in the mid 1940’s?

The first photo is sometime in or after late 1936. The Pacific Electric single track on Orange Street was abandoned on 20 July 1936, the rails lifted, and the former right-of-way repaved. If you look closely, you can see the replacement pavement. 2.07 miles of track were removed, and the line ended at the SunKist packing plant on San Bernardino Avenue.

Pictured in the right corner: Mile High Curry's Ice Cream, a longtime Redlands favorite that many residents remember from downtown Redlands in the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s.

We’re excited to now carry Nate’s Fusion Fresh Orange Juice! 🍊

Made from oranges grown at Buoye Farms right here in Redlands, each bottle is filled with fresh-squeezed juice prepared daily for the freshest flavor possible.

Nate’s Fruit Fusion is about much more than great orange juice.

Nate’s Fruit Fusion (often called Nate’s Fusion) is a beloved Redlands business and job training program for young adults with special needs. Founded by Lisa McCool for her son Nathan, who was diagnosed with autism and was initially told he might never walk or talk, the program has grown into a vital community space where differently-abled individuals gain employment experience, develop social skills, and build confidence.

Every bottle supports a local business with a mission to create opportunities, foster independence, and strengthen our community.

Stop by and pick up a bottle while supplies last—and taste the difference that locally grown Redlands oranges and community spirit can make. ❤️🍊
