The set decorator reads the script and researches the character and their historical context to create the environment in each scene. They also manage the budget and curate all the furniture, rugs, and artwork for the set. The set decorator has to be creative while working within budget constraints and navigating conflicting feedback from different departments.

The set dresser handles the physical labor of setting up the set—rigging a chandelier, moving furniture, and picking up items from prop houses. There is a fast turnaround time between scenes, and the set dresser’s work often goes unnoticed.

Bible Verses for the Set Decorators and Dressers

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You have anointed my head with oil; My cup overflows.
Psalm 23:5

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”
Psalm 119:105

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.
Matthew 5:9

A Prayer for Set Decorators and Dressers

Father, we thank You for the set decorators and dressers who create the environments for the stories we watch. Please guide the set decorators as they pick the furniture and artwork for each set, and give them wisdom in how they manage their budget. Strengthen the set dressers for the physical work of moving furniture and set pieces, and please help them manage their time effectively. Lead them to create settings for redemptive stories that show people Your goodness, truth, and beauty. In Jesus' name, amen!
