Kurt Swanson for Supervisor
Lifelong Shasta County resident, CPA, and community leader committed to families, growth, and a stronger future. Paid for by Kurt Swanson for Supervisor 2026
I’m Kurt Swanson, and I’m running for Shasta County District 1 Supervisor in 2026. As a CPA, community leader, husband, and father, I believe in fiscal responsibility, protecting our county’s future, and bringing civility and respect back to local government. This campaign is about putting people over politics—working together to build safer neighborhoods, stronger families, and a more transparent

Last year when I briefly entered the race for Shasta County Supervisor, District 1, I had the opportunity to meet with many people across our community who hold a wide range of political views. Those conversations were valuable to me and ultimately helped me realize that running for office wasn’t the right fit for me. I stepped away from the race in December hoping to return to focusing on my family and work.
However, for the sake of transparency, Raquel and I want to share where we stand in the current race. We are supporting and endorsing Erin Resner for Shasta County Supervisor, District 1. We’ve also made a contribution to her campaign because we believe she will serve our community well. Erin and her husband Chris are people we know personally, and we believe Erin will bring thoughtful leadership and a genuine commitment to Shasta County.
Recently I learned that statements are being made suggesting I support Kevin Crye or am aligned with his campaign. That is simply not true. While Kevin and I did meet a few times over lunch to chat about local politics, I have not endorsed him. My hope was to remain silent and neutral during their campaign but these rumors must be answered with truth and honesty.
Wishing all of the candidates the best as the race moves forward.

I’m so thankful for the support, encouragement, and love this community has shown me throughout this journey. ❤️
After a lot of reflection and long conversations with family and close friends, I’ve made a difficult decision about my campaign for District 1. Shasta County deserves someone who can give this role their full energy and focus, and right now is simply not the right time for me to do that.
I’m forever hopeful for what this county can become with the right leadership — people willing to roll up their sleeves, work together, and put community over position.
My full statement is below.
Thank you, truly.

🦃 𝙃𝙖𝙥𝙥𝙮 𝙏𝙝𝙖𝙣𝙠𝙨𝙜𝙞𝙫𝙞𝙣𝙜, 𝙎𝙝𝙖𝙨𝙩𝙖 𝘾𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙩𝙮!
As we gather with family and friends today, I want to take a moment to share how grateful I am for this community. Over the past few weeks, I’ve been reminded again and again just how strong, thoughtful, and resilient the people of Shasta County truly are.
Thank you for the conversations, the encouragement, the honesty, and the heart you bring to our county every single day. It’s been a busy season — and we have a lot of work ahead — but today is about slowing down, appreciating what matters most, and spending time with the people who ground us.
Wishing you a safe, joyful, and restful Thanksgiving.
Enjoy the food, the laughter, and the moments that become memories.
From my family to yours — Happy Thanksgiving. 🍁

Today’s update on the True North Project is a win for transparency, collaboration, and the thousands of families in our community who deserve better mental and behavioral health services.
This progress happened because you showed up, spoke out, and refused to be ignored. This isn’t the finish line, but it is a major step forward.
And it shows exactly what’s possible when our community leads with service over ego.

It’s been an eventful few weeks in Shasta County — and as we head into Thanksgiving, I want to take a moment to say thank you.
Thank you to my family, friends, and this incredible community for the constant encouragement and support. I’m truly grateful for each person who has reached out, shared ideas, and reminded me why this work matters.
The recent activity at the Board of Supervisors has shown just how much is at stake for our county. There’s a lot to fix — but there’s also a lot to be hopeful about. I look forward to the day we can redirect the ship, bring back balance, and make leadership about service — not ego.
And while the work continues, I’ll also be spending a little time this week tinkering with my old Ford trucks. It’s my version of grounding — a reminder that no matter how noisy things get, there’s value in slowing down and reconnecting with what you love.
When that time comes, I’m excited to work with every member of the Board — to listen, to learn, and to find common ground wherever possible. We won’t always agree, but understanding each other’s mission is the first step toward real progress for Shasta County.
Let’s move forward together.

Since Friday’s Board of Supervisors meeting, I’ve been reading your posts and following the conversations about what happened. It’s clear that our community is frustrated — and rightfully so. Mental health and addiction continue to affect families across Shasta County, yet instead of working toward real solutions, we’re watching leadership in District 1 choose ego and chaos over progress.
This is exactly why strong, compassionate leadership matters. Shasta County deserves representatives who listen, who lead with respect, and who put people before politics.
If you or someone you love has been affected by the lack of mental health resources in our county, I’d love to hear your story. Your experiences help shape the kind of leadership and solutions we fight for.
📩 You can share your story or message by emailing [email protected]
If we choose to share your story publicly, it will remain anonymous, and all identifying details will be removed.
Together, we can build a Shasta County that leads with integrity and heart — one that truly listens and never leaves families behind. ❤️

Huge thank you to Sandi Thompson for this awesome painted campaign rock! 🎨
Sandi isn’t just an incredible community member known for her graffiti cleanup efforts — she was also my favorite math teacher at Sequoia! Her dedication to her students and to Shasta County has always inspired me.
People like Sandi remind us that our community’s strength comes from those who give their time, talent, and heart to make it better every day.
Appreciate you, Sandi, for all you’ve done — both inside the classroom and out. 🙌💙
