Palm tree season is officially here 🌴

It’s best to trim palms when the seed pods first appear, before they fully bloom and start dropping seeds and debris everywhere. Waiting too long can turn into a huge mess fast.

Overgrown pods and dead fronds can also attract pests, rodents, and insects, especially once the weather heats up.

We’re looking for experienced climbers and CDL drivers to join the crew. If you know the work, show up ready, and take pride in what you do, we’d like to talk.

For climbers, a CDL is a big plus but not required.

Work is steady and we’re staying busy, looking for people who want to be part of a solid team and grow with us.

Defensible space starts closest to the home.

Things like trimming back overhang, removing hazard trees, and creating space around structures all play a big role in protecting a property.

With a red flag warning hitting this early, it’s a good reminder of how important defensible space is here in the North State.

This visual from CAL FIRE shows how defensible space is broken down into zones:

Zone 0 (0–5 feet) is the area closest to your home. This is where you want to remove anything that can easily catch fire. No mulch, no debris, and nothing combustible right up against the structure.

Zone 1 (5–30 feet) focuses on clearing and spacing. Keeping grass cut low, trimming trees, and removing anything that could carry fire toward the home.

Zone 2 (30–100 feet) is about reducing heavier fuels. Spacing out vegetation, managing brush, and keeping things from building up.

It’s also something we’re seeing come up more and more with insurance. A lot of homeowners are being asked to show proper defensible space, and it can impact coverage if it’s not in place.

That’s where our teams come in. Tree work around structures, vegetation management for grass and invasive growth, and forestry work for heavier fuels in larger or more rural areas.

It all comes back to helping protect homes, land, and the community.

Every expert starts somewhere… usually covered in sawdust.

This photo is Mike back in the early days, working as a groundman with A-1. Long before owning the company, he was out there doing the work, learning it day by day and earning his way up.

Over time, that turned into something more. Mike eventually purchased A-1 and continued building on what was already there, with a strong focus on doing things the right way and taking care of the community we’re part of.

Since then, the company has grown quite a bit. What started as tree service expanded into vegetation management and forestry, all with the same goal of helping protect properties, reduce risk, and take better care of the land around us.

And somewhere along the way… camera phones got a lot better too. 😅

A lot has changed since this photo was taken, but the foundation hasn’t. It’s still about doing the work right and taking care of the community we’re proud to be part of.
