California homeowners, good news 🎉
If you make your home safer from wildfire, you may pay less for insurance.
Why? 🔥
If your insurance company charges more because of wildfire risk, they also have to give credit for safety upgrades.
That means things like:
👉 clearing brush
👉 sealing vents
👉 other home hardening work
Plus, being in a Firewise community! 🙌
At Shasta County Fire Safe Council, we help neighbors band together to create Firewise communities and potentially save on insurance costs!
It’s a great way to make your community more fire resilient while putting money back in your pocket.

A well-maintained irrigation system is a key part of wildfire preparedness.
Keeping vegetation hydrated can reduce its flammability and help protect your property.
Steps To Follow:
🔥 Inspect for Damage: Check for leaks, broken sprinkler heads, or clogged nozzles that could affect performance.
🔥 Adjust Sprinklers: Make sure sprinklers are watering plants and not non-vegetative areas like driveways or sidewalks.
🔥 Set a Schedule: Water plants regularly to keep them healthy, but avoid overwatering to conserve resources.
By maintaining your irrigation system, you’re taking an important step toward wildfire safety and community resilience.

Here’s how you can make an impact:
🔥 Clear Flammable Materials: Remove any flammable items, such as dry leaves, firewood, or debris, within 5 feet of your home. This reduces the risk of flames reaching your house.
🔥 Maintain a 30-Foot Zone: Keep plants well-spaced, healthy, and free of dead vegetation within 30 feet of your home. This helps slow the spread of fire and creates a buffer zone.
🔥 Extend to 100 Feet: Thin out trees and shrubs, and remove ladder fuels (vegetation that allows fire to climb from the ground to tree canopies) up to 100 feet from your home. This minimizes the chance of fire spreading rapidly.
By creating a defensible space, you’re not only protecting your property but also contributing to the safety of your community.
