Requirements:

o must be in at least moderately good physical condition, able to on occasion lift up 80 pounds.

o must not have a significant fear of heights.

o must be able to fully follow directions and safety protocols.

Preferable but not essential:

o roof and/or ladder experience.

o reliable transportation (depending on location and situation).

Previous experience is not necessary, and on the job training will be provided.

Primary tasks will involve cleaning gutters on residential and commercial buildings, primarily from the roof or a ladder. Other possible tasks may include roof cleaning, minor gutter repairs, and simple gutter guard installation.

This position both offers and may require some degree of time flexibility. Current work hours are typically approximately 10:00-5:30, M-F (although that may expand soon), but if you have certain daily or weekly obligations we may be able to work around that. At the same time, while we typically will work in a light rain, heavy rain causes a lot of issues so there would usually not be work available during that time. This has generally been a fairly rare occurrence in Redding in recent years however.

We have added solar panel cleaning to our services! While the coming rains will definitely help to some degree, it surprised me to learn that water alone does not do a good job of cleaning off the layer of ash that I've found on solar panels since the fires; it has to be scrubbed off!

As the Carr fire encroaches uncomfortably close to Redding, we want to continue to offer prayers and support to our neighbors in evacuation areas as well as all the firefighters working to keep us safe!

We also wanted to offer a tip, especially to everyone in or near evacuation areas: if you haven't had your gutters cleaned recently, and you don't have metal gutter guards, I highly recommend WATERING YOUR GUTTERS in addition to vegetation around your house.

I took the picture on the left just this afternoon in the Mary Lake area. If you look closely, you will see not only ashes from the fire, but fine tinder-like material from the trees. If there had been any embers that landed on the roof, even though it was a tile roof, it could have rolled down into the gutter and easily caught it on fire.

Here's why: in the event of a fire in the area, embers get pushed up into the sky, that can sometimes travel significant distances. If these come down on your roof and roll down into your empty gutter, they fizzle out and all is well. But if there are leaves in there, a perfect environment can be created for that debris to catch fire, which can quickly spread to your roof and engulf the whole house. So take that extra step this week to get those gutters cleaned!
