•All property for which property taxes & assessments have been in default for 5+ years,
•All nonresidential commercial property for which property taxes and assessments have been in default for 3+ years,

‼️AGRICULTURAL ALERT: CONFIRMED GLASSY-WINGED SHARPSHOOTER DETECTED ON GRAPE PLANT FROM REDDING COSTCO‼️

On June 5, 2026, one confirmed glassy-winged sharpshooter was found on a grape plant purchased at the Redding Costco location. Additional monitoring traps have been placed around the affected property to monitor for the potential spread and establishment of this pest.

Residents who purchased grapevines from any Costco store between April 21, 2026, and May 21, 2026, are strongly urged to contact the Agricultural Commissioner. Due to the number of positive finds throughout the state, the Shasta County Agricultural Commissioner would like to place monitoring traps near where the grapevines were stored or planted.

🚫Do not return, transport, relocate, share, or give away the grape plants, and do not place plants in trash bins or compost containers.

📞Contact the Shasta County Agriculture Department at (530) 224-4949 or email [email protected] to schedule inspection of the grape plants and receive guidance on preventing further spread of the glassy-winged sharpshooter.

“Glassy-winged sharpshooters pose a serious threat to vineyards, agriculture, and backyard plants throughout Shasta County and nearby areas,” said John Ingram, Shasta County Agricultural Commissioner. “These insects spread the bacterium Xylella fastidiosa, which causes Pierce’s Disease and can kill grapevines and severely damage vineyards. Early response is key for monitoring and controlling the spread of this pest and, to-date, we have only accounted for about 20% of the plants shipped to the Redding Costco. We are asking any Shasta County resident who purchased a grape plant between the listed dates to contact our office as soon as possible.”

For more information on Pierce’s Disease or the Glassy-winged Sharpshooter, please visit: https://www.cdfa.ca.gov/pdcp/

Following a Special Meeting of the Board of Supervisors on Saturday, June 6, 2026, the Board voted to release as much info as is legally allowable as quickly as possible regarding an incident that occurred at the Shasta County Elections Department, located at 1643 Market Street on June 4, 2026.

The following is a summary of that incident, which has already been reported to the Secretary of State, as matters pertaining to elections in California fall under their jurisdiction. Additional details omitted from this summary to protect the individuals involved were also provided to the Secretary of State.

During a reconciliation of the early vote, which is a standard process following an election, discrepancies were found, suggesting that a small number of additional ballots may have been handed out to voters prior to election day by one employee. Further, since the reconciliation process is required to be completed prior to certain reports being available from the Election Information Management System (EIMS), those reports may not have been properly balanced before being run from EIMS.

The working documents and election materials were locked in a cabinet, in the office, until the employees working on the reconciliation were able to return and continue the work later. During the interim, those documents were removed by another employee, copied, given to the Clerk & Registrar of Voters, Clint Curtis, and securely locked in another employee’s office.

At no time did original ballots, or election materials leave the Elections Department at 1643 Market Street.

Copies of the documents, which may have included the following voter information, were retained and removed from the office by the Clerk & Registrar of Voters, Clint Curtis:

• Names
• Addresses
• Reason(s) they were requesting a new ballot
• Date of Birth
• Signature (or facsimile thereof)
• Phone Number

Since this matter falls under the jurisdiction and discretion of the Secretary of State, the County of Shasta will not be initiating litigation at this time.
