In late June, the region was devastated by back-to-back earthquakes. Thousands of families are now facing the unimaginable.

Thanks to a close friend at Odeko , we had a pathway to help. This week, 150 portable water filters arrived safely—each capable of providing more than 100,000 gallons of clean drinking water.

When everything else feels like chaos, access to safe water shouldn’t be in question.

The world has enough competition.
Just for variety’s sake, we thought we’d try collaboration instead.

Today, we’re excited to announce a new partnership with our friends across the pond, Village Water .

Kind Human and Village Water share the same conviction: the water crisis is too big for any one organization to solve alone. So instead of each funding 10 well rehabilitations, we’re splitting the bill and restoring 20 broken borewells across Zambia’s Western Province.

In five months, those wells will provide reliable clean water to nearly 3,500 people 💧

Zambia’s humanitarian crisis rarely makes the headlines. After enduring the worst drought in its recorded history, families are facing widespread hunger. More than one-third of children under five are stunted from chronic malnutrition, and most households depend on farming and fishing to survive. Water isn’t the entire solution, but it’s where so many solutions begin.

That’s why this partnership means so much to us. Rehabilitating an existing well is one of the fastest and most cost-effective ways to radically improve public health. PERIOD.

Twenty communities will soon have a dependable water source again because two organizations decided to work together instead of apart.

We’re incredibly grateful for Village Water, their 20 years of faithful work in Zambia, and the opportunity to partner in something far bigger than either of us could accomplish alone.

If it looks like the drilling rig is struggling…

…it’s because she is.

This borewell was completed back in June, but it didn’t come without a fight. Just over 100 feet down, the drill started chewing through incredibly hard rock—quartzite, jasper, and other dense formations.

Ironically, that’s usually a good sign.

In much of southern India, groundwater isn’t stored in underground lakes. It’s found in tiny fractures and cracks within the bedrock itself. The challenge isn’t drilling through the rock—it’s finding the fractures that hold and move water.

And one more thing…

There’s something pretty incredible about unearthing rocks that have likely been buried for hundreds of millions of years. For all practical purposes, we’re the first people to ever hold them in our hands.

We have a lot of confidence in the next generation. Young leaders who aren’t afraid to ask hard questions, do the research, and put both their minds AND their hearts to work.

This July, we’re teaming up with Girls Inc. of GPSNJ for a STEM workshop centered on one of the world’s toughest engineering challenges: clean water.

These young women will explore why water matters, build real filtration systems, and see how science and engineering can solve problems that affect millions of girls around the world every day.

We can’t wait to see what they build—and who they become.
