Many thanks to Relay for Life of Berks County for inviting ReMARKable you! to participate in this year’s event at the Berks County Fairgrounds on May 30th. I am so grateful for the opportunity to share my story and this day of awareness with my local community as a close to Vascular Birthmarks Month of Awareness.

❓DID YOU KNOW? While vascular anomalies are not a form of cancer, some share similar genetic pathways with cancer, which is why they are sometimes treated with medications originally developed for oncology.

Equity for rare diseases means more representation than you can imagine. ✨
•
Imagine a world where rare individuals are equally represented in the media, not only shining a light on these conditions to promote education, but also to encourage empathy and gain recognition from those in power to dedicate funding for research towards treatments and cures.
•
Living with PIK3CA-related overgrowth syndrome (PROS) subtype Klippel-Trenaunay Syndrome, I grew up in a world where I needed to explain my condition and my symptoms to everyone, my friends, my teachers, even total strangers. I live with people thinking that my vascular birthmark is simply a cosmetic issue and not just the outward sign of a much more complex condition that will affect me my entire life.
•
As an advocate for the rare disease and vascular anomaly community, I want to make a difference in the lives of all individuals born with these conditions. Imagine a world where rare is beautiful. 💕

I loved being part of this annual event promoting all things wellness, and sharing the mission of ReMARKable you! I even got to do a little remarkable face glitter on peas and carrots. 🫛🥕✨

As a wellness vendor at this health fair since 2022, it is an honor to be invited back every year to provide education about vascular anomalies and make community connections to share my youth outreach programs and information about the Pennsylvania Purple Polka Dot Race.
