Before it became a mall, this site in Muhlenberg Township was home to the Reading Fairgrounds Speedway, which drew crowds for decades. Boscov’s opened here in 1965, and the mall followed about 15 years later as the area fully shifted to retail.

The mall officially opened with a ribbon-cutting on October 20, 1980, during the first day of the 125th Reading Fair held on the premises.

On Friday June 5, 2026, 5th Street and Penn Street will be CLOSED for the World War II Parade from 11:00am until approx. 3:00pm.

The following routes will detour:

– Route 12/Lincoln Park via Reading Hospital
– Route 14/Wernersville via Sinking Spring
– Route 15/Berkshire Mall
– Route 16/Broadcasting Square
– Route 17/Glenside / Airport / Berks Heim
– Route 18/Schuylkill Avenue
– Route 20/RT 61 / Hamburg

BE NICE Tip of the Month: For your safety, do not run to catch a moving bus. Bus drivers cannot pick up passengers once a bus has left the bus stop. This is for everyone’s safety. Please arrive at the bus stop a few minutes early to ensure you can board safely.

Today, BARTA participated in the Helping Harvest Agency Conference held at Penn State Berks! We enjoyed connecting with community partners, sharing information about our services, and discussing how public transportation helps connect individuals and families to essential resources throughout Berks County.

Route 2 – Fairgrounds Square Market Highlight of the Week! 🚌

This route travels to the Boscov's at Fairgrounds Square Mall, Fairgrounds Farmer's Market, City of Reading City Hall, and Berks PA CareerLink.
