program and Freedom House have collaborated on two community gardens, one in Kent and one in Ravenna. These gardens produce locally-grown fruits, flowers and vegetables. This organic produce is then distributed to those in need that may not otherwise have access to a Farmer's Market. We donate all produce to those in need, including individuals, families, shelters, food pantries and youth centers.

We had a great time at the Haymaker Farmer's Market the past two Saturdays! Thanks to everyone for the donations, interest, and especially those who picked up volunteer applications! It's great to have the community's support. We'll be continuing our giveaways until September 15th in Kent and Ravenna- check our events and tell anyone you know who could benefit.

This week we had the first community giveaways at both garden sites! Despite our late season, we had plenty of donated bread and salad mix to give away, thanks to Ryan Everett and Scott Budzar who brought food from the Akron Canton Regional Foodbank! We'll continue the giveaways each week, so don't miss us! Produce from the gardens coming soon. And look out for the tomatoes- they're getting big and looking delicious!
The gardens are growing... and we're starting the giveaways June 13th! Starting that week, we'll have fresh produce available from 10-11 am on Wednesdays at the Freedom House at 1213 Anita Dr. in Kent, and Thursdays at 642 W. Main St. in Ravenna. Come pick up delicious, healthy food this summer!

Special thanks to the 20 Hiram College students that came out on April 25th to help get our two garden sites ready for the planting/growing season! Garden work shifts begin the week of May 9th!
