What’s Cooking in Your Region? 🍽️

At our regional food gatherings across North Carolina, we’re asking community leaders and partners what’s inspiring them most about the food work happening where they live.

At our Southeast Regional Food Gathering, LaVonia Lewis of Men and Women United for Youth & Families, CDC shared what’s cooking in the Delco area: creating opportunities for local farmers to connect with markets and helping young people understand the importance of food security from an early age.

Strong communities start with strong local food systems—and the people working every day to make them thrive.

Today marks the Summer Solstice and the first day of summer! ☀️

As school lets out and routines shift, SUN Bucks can help families keep healthy food on the table. SUN Bucks is a federal and state food assistance program that helps eligible families purchase groceries during the summer months when school is out.

After 18 months of learning, relationship-building, and collective growth, the Roots of Resilience cohort has come to a close.

Rooted in racial justice, equity, solidarity, collective care, and advocacy, the cohort brought together food systems leaders to learn from one another, strengthen connections, and explore new possibilities for community-led change.

Thank you to everyone who shared their time, wisdom, and vision throughout this journey.
Shoutout to Michael Banner with Island CultureZ for sharing his thoughts with us!

Stay tuned for more videos, photos, and reflections from cohort participants in the weeks ahead. 💚

🌱 What’s cooking in your region?

In Warren County, NC, the future of local food is growing stronger every day. Working Landscapes is helping build healthier, more sustainable lives and livelihoods through stewardship of the region’s natural and cultural assets. Program Manager John White says one of the most exciting trends is seeing a new generation return to farming. He tells us they are proud to work with both seasoned and new farmers in the region in building a local food movement.

What are you most excited about in your local food system? Share what’s growing in your neck of the woods! 🌾🚜
