Starting this Sunday, there will be a gathering place for guests and visitors at FBC! As you leave the sanctuary, you might notice a table with folks gathered around some snacks. This new table is meant to be a gathering place for visitors who are looking to make a connection here at FBC and learn more about the church. Feel free to stop by and say hello—just leave enough snacks for our guests! The table will be placed right outside of the library on the second floor. If you come to worship and find yourself in conversation with a new guest, don’t hesitate to send them over to—or better yet—join them at our new visitor table. We are looking forward to this new way to show hospitality to our visitors on Sunday mornings!

Name those college students! Help us identify some of these students from 1978 & 1982 FBC college retreats. Who do you recognize?!
A special thanks to the family of Frances Shell for sharing these special photos with us.

We're so grateful for a wonderful week of VBS fun! We painted, wove paper, built, launched rockets, pretended to wash each other’s feet, made music, and trusted our friends while being blindfolded in an obstacle course — just to name a few of the things we did! And all the while, we focused on Bible stories that pointed us toward CONNECTIONS — connections with friends, family, community, and most of all Jesus.
Through our VBS mission offering, we were able to fill FOUR backpacks full-to-the-brim with school supplies and children’s books in Spanish for a school in La Fortunita, Honduras (the same school for which our Honduras team built a playground in June). Thanks to the 60 kids and the entire village of volunteers who made this week possible!

The summer issue of our First Foundations magazine is hot off the press, and ready for you to read! Magazines will be available on Sunday in the Lewis Building lobby by the elevators. There are also copies of the magazine located at all entrances to the sanctuary for you to grab on your way out of worship. Feel free to get an extra copy for a neighbor who might like to know more about who we are, as we continue to reach beyond our walls. We are so grateful for all of our contributors (in order of their articles) — Claire Petty, Luke Foster, Maria Childrey, Kent Dickens, Leah Reed, Christopher Chapman, Valerie Cumbea, and Dan Day. A special thanks to our First Foundations magazine team that makes every publication come to life — Jen Foster, Anne Bullard, Claire Willmschen, and Leah Reed.

Fourteen of our third through sixth graders headed up the mountain recently to enjoy four days of Passport Kids camp at Lees McRae in Banner Elk. Our theme for the week was VAMOS! (Let’s Go) and our focal verse was from Hebrews 12: 1a: “So then, with endurance, let’s also run the race that is laid out in front of us.” As we enjoyed competing against other Bible study groups at the Rec Party (with a beautiful view of the mountains around us), learning about Mexico City and the mission of EduK at the Night Market, and creek-stomping in a nearby river, we learned that God equips each of us with gifts and abilities, provides for us strong building blocks of faith through Jesus’ life and teachings, and calls us to go into our schools and neighborhoods and communities to be the light of Christ for others in authentic and impactful ways. We're grateful for a wonderful week!

We are starting to collect donations for our annual Christmas shopping event for the community, Toy Joy! If you have gently used toys, books, stuffed animals, puzzles, or games to donate, we will be having two donation days: Sunday, September 27, and Sunday, October 18, from 9:30am–12:30pm, in the fellowship hall. These are the only times we can accept gently used items—please make sure that all pieces and parts are included and items are in very good condition. Marking those items COMPLETE so we know they have been checked is very helpful for our volunteers. Stay tuned, and thanks in advance for being a part of our community ministry!
