Increased Risk of Wildfire Due to Elevated Fire Danger -- Thursday, June 18, 2026

The National Weather Service has issued fire danger statements for central and eastern North Carolina. What does increased fire danger mean for you today?

🎯 Fires can start from the smallest spark.
🎯 Dry conditions and wind increase fire spread.
🎯 Everyday activities carry more risk right now.

Avoid burning, and be cautious with anything that could cause a spark. Properly dispose of smoking materials such as ci******es. Be extremely careful with machinery and farm equipment when working outdoors.

Contact your N.C. Forest Service county ranger's office for guidance.

Great share from our friends at the Beaufort Fire Department. And a great reminder that CO alarms are for more than just natural gas / propane appliances.

Today, Beaufort Fire Department responded to a report of a CO alarm where they located off gassing golf cart batteries. Fortunately, the situation was handled safely, but it serves as an important reminder about the value of early detection.

A properly installed combination smoke alarm and carbon monoxide (CO) alarm can provide critical warning of a developing hazard. During battery failures or overcharging events, batteries can emit smoke and potentially release gases that may create dangerous conditions.

Smoke alarms can provide early notification of smoke, while carbon monoxide alarms may alert occupants to certain hazardous gases that can be present during battery malfunctions. Having working alarms installed according to manufacturer recommendations can give your family valuable time to react and call for help.

Take a few minutes today to test your alarms and replace batteries if needed. Early warning saves lives.
