here’s been a lot of confusion around the 1099-K, so here’s the truth.

For federal taxes, a 1099-K is issued only if BOTH apply:
• Over $20,000 in total payments
• 200+ transactions

This applies to third-party payment platforms like PayPal, Venmo (goods & services), Cash App, Zelle business accounts, Etsy, eBay, Stripe, Square, and similar apps.

A few things to remember:
• Personal payments (gifts, reimbursements, friends/family) are not taxable
• You may still receive a 1099-K even if you’re under the threshold
• Even without a 1099-K, taxable income must still be reported

Bottom line:
A 1099-K reports activity — it doesn’t create income. Report what’s taxable, deduct what’s allowed, and keep your books straight.
