Stanley Augustus White was born in 1929 in the Duffyfield neighborhood of New Bern, NC. Among his many notable accomplishments, he was a founding member of the New Bern Giants semi-pro baseball team, a dedicated mentor to many young people in the community, and the athletic director of the Cedar Street Recreation Center. In honor of his legacy, the new Stanley A. White Recreation Center has been established to serve as a community hub for the residents of Duffyfield. Studio 310 had the honor of researching Mr. White's life and the history of the Duffyfield neighborhood to design and create a permanent exhibit—a nearly 60-foot history wall—located inside the recreation center. Inspired by the structure of a book, the installation is divided into conceptual chapters, each offering a manageable amount of content. This allows visitors to explore at their own pace, without feeling overwhelmed. A large, dimensional graphic of Stanley invites visitors to engage and take selfies, while informative panels, photographs, and dynamic collage imagery bring his story to life. The exhibition also features a display case of recreated artifacts, offering a tangible connection to the past. The introduction of “Studio” into our name signifies our progress toward limitless design and multidisciplinary expertise, while retaining “310” honors our roots, symbolizing our founding in March 2010. This milestone celebrates both our history and our future as we continue creating innovative, meaningful experiences for our communities and neighbors.

310ai is excited to announce our win for the Healthcare Design Award at the IIDA Carolinas Designworks Awards this past weekend, for our Urban Smiles Dental project.

Our task was to design a comfortable space for Dr. Alam’s growing practice that matches their modern, clean lined aesthetic. A statement reception desk and coffee bar establish their brand and separate two waiting areas with a variety of soft seating types. The high exposed ceiling and dramatic reception soffit in the lobby creates a unique layered experience. Ample interior glazing allows light to pour in from the building common area and exterior windows to brighten the center of the space. Large moss art installations bring biophilic elements into the space to accentuate the tall ceiling volume. It was a joy to create this space that Dr. Alam and her patients will enjoy for years to come!

This is a fun re-use project on the boards. Our client is moving into an existing building and our challenge is to refresh the dated exterior without breaking the bank. Stay tuned!
