It’s corn! 🌽 See second picture for a surprise

This is the first year growing ‘Glass Gem’ corn. The first picture is right after harvesting. The second picture is about 24 hours after picking. Those white colored combs are now a rich blue

And we’re back!

2022 has been an adventure. I’m so excited to show everyone the garden and all the fun projects that are in the works. What have you been up to this year?

This picture was taken exactly two years ago on NC States campus. After a very cold winter I was so excited to see these Hellebores walking to class one day.

Did you know Hellebores (Lenten Roses) grow in shade and are one of the first flowers to bloom? If you have a shady patch in your yard, I highly suggest adding a few of these beauties to your collection!

For the 2021 growing season, I focused on preserving produce from the garden. We all know how crazy it can get when the summer vegetables start to pick up. I tried to come up with ways to make the harvest last throughout the year. Here are a few things I have made with the garden bounty:

Basil Pesto
Canned Tomatoes
Zucchini Bread
Strawberry & blueberry jam
Dehydrated tomatoes and peppers
Hot Sauce
Apple butter & apple sauce

What are some recipes that you make with extra produce? I’d love to make some of your go-to recipes this season.

Wreath making season is one of the best times of the year. All of the foliage in these pictures is from the farm and the fir is from the left over branches on our Christmas trees.

You can make your own wreaths too! Please remember to only harvest what you need and check your local guides for endangered plants.

Look who decided to show up before the frost. 🌻❄️

These sunflowers were planted in mid September which is definitely pushing the risk of frost. Well we took a chance and it’s paid off! I’m so glad we could get a few more shining sunflowers before the cold sets in. Are there any flowers still going strong in your garden?

It’s seed starting time!

I might be a little late to the game but better late then never! There’s a few new veggies I’m starting year like Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, arugula, and kohlrabi. Has anyone else started their fall plants?

We timed it perfectly! Sunflowers just in time for Halloween. 🎃🌻

I was a little worried we wouldn’t get them by the first frost since they were planted so late in the season. Thankfully we had two big rains that pushed out new growth. Get ready for gorgeous fall sunflower pics!
