📣 Invest in LGBTQ+ Immigrant New Yorkers
The , a steering committee member of the New York City Trans & Q***r Coalition (***rcoalition), is advancing a historic FY27 budget proposal to create the LGBTQ+ Immigrant Legal Services Fund. This new initiative calls for a transformative, $15 million annual investment in culturally competent, accessible, and community-centered legal services tailored to LGBTQ+ immigrants in New York City. The proposed fund will address longstanding gaps in immigration representation, strengthen legal protections, and ensure equitable access to justice for one of the city’s most vulnerable communities.
🗽Fund Diverse Entry points to service:
⚖️ $7.5M to create a new Speaker City Wide Initiative to be allocated to non-profits that applied to the City Council discretionary funding.
⚖️ $7.5M allocated to expand the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs’ existing services to include additional LGBTQIA+ specialized attorneys and social workers.
🗣 We call on the New York City Council Speaker Julie Menin (), the LGBTQIA+ Caucus (), CM Elsie Encarnacion (), and CM Linda Lee () to stand with an estimated 150,000–200,000 LGBTQ+ immigrants in NYC, with approximately 60– 70% unable to access needed legal services.

Our sibling Qween Jean 🏳️⚧️🇭🇹 is a winner!
Tonight, Qween Jean () won the Tony Award for best costume design of a musical on Sunday for her work on “Cats: The Jellicle Ball.” The costume designer and activist has become the first openly transgender person to win a Tony, according to the show's publicist.
She joins a small group of Black trans and gender-nonconforming artists honored by the awards, including L Morgan Lee, J. Harrison Ghee, and Alex Newell.
For the q***r ballroom-style revival of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical, Qween Jean created 500 looks, including extravagant accessories like an immense free-standing leopard purse, and clothes hand-decorated with references to trans pioneers and revolutionaries, including Sylvia Rivera, Marsha P. Johnson, and Miss Major Griffin-Gracy.

🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️ Happy Queens Pride.
While the Caribbean Equality Project will not be participating in Queens Pride 2026, our commitment to Caribbean LGBTQ+ and immigrant communities remains unwavering. For over a decade, we have stood in solidarity with our cross-movement partners at Queens Pride—uplifting our communities and advocating for safety, visibility, and belonging.
✨ This year, we continue that work beyond the parade—grounded in resistance and collective care, and committed to confronting injustice in all its forms, from systemic discrimination to political violence and the ongoing impact of ICE terrorizing our communities. We remain grounded in culture, anchored in resistance, and rooted in radical love.
📣 Together, we are building a New York where all LGBTQ+ immigrants—Black, Brown, undocumented, and working-class—can not only survive, but live safely, dream freely, and thrive.
