What is HVAC ?

How a Compressor Gives Hot & Cold Air ? Here’s a clear explanation of how a compressor enables an HVAC system to give hot and cold air:

1. The Role of the Compressor
• The compressor doesn’t blow air directly.
• Its main job is to compress the refrigerant gas, increasing its pressure and temperature.
• This allows the system to either absorb heat from inside (cooling) or release heat inside (heating, with a heat pump).

2. Cooling Mode (Air Conditioner)
1. Evaporator Coil: The refrigerant absorbs heat from indoor air → air becomes cold.
2. Compressor: Compresses the low-pressure gas into high-pressure, hot gas.
3. Condenser Coil: Releases the absorbed heat to the outside → refrigerant becomes liquid again.
4. Expansion Valve: Reduces refrigerant pressure → cycle repeats.

Result: Cold air comes into the room, heat is expelled outside.

3. Heating Mode (Heat Pump)
1. The refrigerant flow is reversed using a reversing valve.
2. Indoor Coil acts as a condenser → releases heat into the room.
3. Outdoor Coil acts as an evaporator → absorbs heat from outside.
4. Compressor again compresses refrigerant → cycle continues.

Result: Warm air is delivered inside even during cold weather.
