Socialize Your Pup Early

Socialization is “the absolute key to start off on the best paw going forward.”

Even better? Starting the socialization process before your pup turns four months old.

Adopting adult or senior dogs is a wonderful thing sometimes these animals are already well-trained and housebroken.

But, if you’re looking for optimal control over how your pup is trained, beginning the socialization process before four months is ideal.

The 3 B's For Every Dog Owner

Be Smart:
Don't give a command unless either you are confident that your dog understands and will respond to it correctly or you are in a position to help him get it right.

Be Prepared:
Have a leash handy in case your dog does not come to you when you call him.

Be Happy:
Because your dog is your friend and your training partner, keep your voice upbeat and smile at him. Dogs are sensitive to our tone of voice and body language, so use both to let him know that you will be so happy when he does what you ask him.

Professional Tips for Dog Training: The 3 B's

Be Consistent: Apply the same rules and the same words all the time.

Be Concise: Give your command just once. Repetition of commands teaches your dog to ignore them because it sounds like you don't care if he obeys or not.

Be Generous: Reward your dog for being right. Give him a treat, verbal praise, or an ear massage.

Utilize A Clicker

In relation to immediateness and recurrence, consistency is a must. All three are offered by a clicker.

Between your dog's activity and the giving of a treat, use a clicker to create an immediate, dependable sound that your dog will know as a job well done and that you can quickly repeat.

Like when you tell your dog to "Sit," they both sit. Click the clicker in place of adding your own voice, which may change from day to day.

Say "Good job!" and give them a tasty soft treat after that. Repeat.

Utilize High-Value Treats

Dog owners have to view rewards as currency rather than food.

A reward is comparable to payment for a job well done to a dog.

Do you want the dog to roll over? Offer high-value treats that your dog will adore to make it worthwhile for her to participate.

Instead of a pat on the head, she's more likely to practice rolling over for a few blueberries.

This is where having a thorough understanding of your dog is so helpful. Try out numerous treats to see which ones your dog prefers.
