A commercial game that I used when reviewing students was “Connect 4.” i made up paper boards and we used those as well as the commercial board. Students can pair up in groups or teams. if they answer correctly, they get a turn, allowing them a turn on the board, if not they wait till they get a correct answer. it helps to play the commercial game before they play with a paper board as they grasp the concept of the checkers falling.

Two books that aren’t new but have great research that would be beneficial to teachers are: “Thank You Power” and “The Power of Respect” by Deborah Norville. Good information for anyone that has contact with humans!

Round Robin Brainstorming Directions: Divide students into groups. Give each group a different brainstorming paper. Have students brainstorm the topic and after a few minutes the paper is passed on to another group and they brainstorm on the new topic. It may be helpful to have several papers with the same topic, if there is a large class.

Many students need extra encouragement. One way to encourage them is listen to the stories of Olympic contestants. Share them orally or record for later use. Hearing the obstacles that people have people have overcome can provide encouragement, it says that “if they did, I can too!”

This might be helpful for a Family and Consumer Science Teacher.

If you haven't used eraser boards, they are a great way to see how students are doing. Ask a question and they write down their answer. They can either be asked to show their board to the front of the room so you can see the answer or you can rotate through the room to see everyone's answers. It keeps students involved and and you can see what students are absorbing!

Making Wise Decisions is a great resource that is found in Teachers Pay Teachers in the Job Prep Lab store. It includes a video link, four activity sheets, handout, discussion questions and more. It is made for middle school students and would be a great packet to include in communication, careers, as well as a variety of content areas. It would also work as a plan for a substitute teacher.

This "free" positivity lesson plan has just been updated on Teachers Pay Teachers in the Job Prep Lab store. It now has a video clip that can be used with the plan. This plan can be inserted throughout several days or lessons, it can also be used as a stand alone unit. Positivity is need in our lives and this could be tagged into units that relate to communication, relationships, family and child development, careers, etc. Who doesn't want positivity in their life!!!

Think of Bloom's Objectives as an apartment building and that you want your students to get to the "Penthouse." In order to get there, you must strive to help your students to reach higher levels. The "Basement" level objectives have their purpose but students will only reach the penthouse if we teach to the higher levels! Go for the penthouse!!!
